How long does your oil pressure light remain on during a cold start?

What is considered normal with 5w30, starting cold at ~60F.

My light always went out instantly as the motor was cranked. Now, after the most recent change (Mobil-1 5w30 and M-102 filter), it remains on for almost a second after the motor starts. What could be causing this change? Bad check valve on the filter?

Sounds like a bad ADBV on the filter. Change it out cold since it is already leaking back into the engine.

 

Mine goes out so fast I have never seen it!

Will change out the filter for a Wix 1516 I just picked up. It is a larger filter and looks like it has a coil spring instead of a flat spring in there. Never seen that before on a filter.

 

Off topic. I've been using the [FONT=verdana,arial,helvetica][SIZE=-1]Wix 51348. Would the Wix 1516 work for me ? I have a 2.7 - she says bigger is better so just wondering.[/SIZE][/FONT]

 

Changed the filter out today, and that was it. No oil spilled. Bad anti-drain valve. Oil pressure light is back to normal after the filter switch. I will be sticking with the Napa/Wix 1516 from now on.

Next topic- how much will starting without any oil in the filter damage the motor?

For the small length of time you were doing this, I would believe very little. I am a firm believer in WIX and have used them for years in all my cars/trucks.

 

The spring you see is for the bypass function should the filter get clogged. Has nothing to do with the ADBV which is the rubber piece you see through the outer holes in the baseplate.

Regardless, glad to hear the WIX fixed your issue. The Mobil 1 filters while overpriced, are generally good filters. Considering the millions of filters made everyday, the occasional turd will get through.

 

Just out of curiosity, why not use Toyota filters?
