I started my 2010 Tacoma the other night to warm it up, it ran for about 5 minutes then started to sputter as if it was running out of gas and then died, I tried to start back numerous times and it would act like it was trying to start every 3rd or 4th try but wouldn't start. I put a new fuel pump in and still no start, I thought maybe the anti theft was acting up but it's not that either, I'm completely confused and really need some wisdom as this is my only vehicle and it's been down for almost a week now. Please help! I've hooked a scanner to it and no codes are coming up on it.

Running out of gas is really bad for your fuel pump. Thr gas is what keeps it cool while running, would not be suprised if you need a new fuel pump

IF you are able to get it started check all of the fuel injectors to make sure they are firing properly. You can hold a long screwdriver to them (with the metal end touch the top of the injector and the handle part touching your ear) and listen for constant pinging. If what you are hearing is some random pattern then the injector has issues.

    Could be anything.
If you put a pump in it, did you check it for power and ground before you reassembled everything?
With the limited symptoms you gave, we can probably rule out a spark issue.
The CKP sensor could have chit the bed.
You need to verify the new pump is actually running and you have decent fuel pressure, ~41 PSI.
Check the fuel pump resistor as well (located in front of the battery 4.0L), disconnect and Ohm check between the 2 terminals, should be .71 to .75 Ohms.

The pump is working properly, I could check the ohm on it tho, I'll see about that and let you know what happens. Thank you and everyone else who is trying to help, means slot to me.

I always have somebody turn the key, while I give the intake a shot of starter fluid. Narrows down the fuel or spark debate.

^ Exactly what I was going to recommend. Hit the intake with some starter fluid while the engine is cranking.

Did you check fuses? Make sure MAF is plugged in. Check for spark. Check fuel pressure.

Where is the MAF located? I've checked all the fuses.

Alright, well I found the problem. Someone put sugar in my gas tank, since then I've emptied the gas tank and cleaned it out, put a new fuel pump on, new MAF sensor, new plugs and ran some sea foam through it but it won't stay running unless you keep spraying starting fluid into the intake someplace, Idk exactly where, my dad has been helping. Tomorrow I'm putting new injectors on it, I tried cleaning the injectors but that didn't do it, hopefully new ones solve the problem. Any input?
