Hey everyone, I'm sure someone answered this somewhere in one of the forums but unfortunately I can't find it.

I'm getting my trd sport in a few weeks and I'd love some advice for my first "mod"...

Has anyone ever plasti dipped their trd sport grill but not the emblem? How'd you do it?
Also, do you recommend glossifying the grill if I plasti dip the rims with a coat of glossifier?

Thanks in advanced guys..I'll keep you updated on my progress.

I did it on my TRD OF and easiest way was taking it off and laying card board or something behind it. Hit it light and then go heavier on the coats as you go. Long smooth sprays for best result and as far as the emblem goes you should be good to just put a little masking tape or something in the middle and pull it off once dried

And no need to do the glossifier I didn't notice any difference honestly when I did it to my old wheels

Just to help OP too, does it matter to let each coat completely dry before applying the next?

If it's not dry you'll run into drips. But the best thing about plasti dip is you can pull it and try again if you mess up! Good luck make sure to post results, would love to see the new grill blacked out :)

There's a youtube video that shows good technique for plasti-dipping. I personally haven't tried it yet but visually seeing the process is helpful for me.

There's a big plastidip thread here in the 3rd gen forum that helped me when I did my grill and badges. Try searching for plastidip in the thread title.

You can remove the emblem from the grill, it's just clipped on, if I remember correctly (otherwise it's screwed in, but it's definitely removable). I didn't use glossifier on the grill, but did on the emblem hoping it might set it off a little more. I don't notice much difference.

The glossifier helps to protect the plastidip against fading. It is available in gloss and matt finish, so even if you do not want gloss (it really does not add much more gloss than regular black dip), then you can use the matt finish. Either way, I found that it last longer when the glossifier is added.

Also, I have found that the Duplicolor equivalent to Plastidip sprays more even and gives a better final product.

Truck came in today!! I'm second guessing plasti dipping the grill because it looks pretty good stock IMO. But I plan to plasti dip the badges and vinyl wrap the hood scoop. Hopefully I"ll have more updates for you guys pretty soon! THanks again for the help!

    1) The grill looks good as is, and
    2) I've got a fairly creative and artistic eye, and I can't see anything you can do derping this grill short of rediculous.. Yes? No?
Not like the 16/17 with a few more features begging to be addressed.

Yeah I agree. For some reason I thought the 2018 Sport Grill had more chrome like the older versions. Glad I was wrong. I'm gonna keep the grill as is.
