so i have been thinking and i did some searching but didn't turn up the info i'm looking for.

my thoughts are is the Auto LSD that comes in the base 5 lugger 4x2 trucks the same or similar to the diff in the regular style Tacomas (PreRunner, V6's, and 4x4's) ???

i could be wrong here, but i'm wondering this because doesn't the LSD engage BOTH rear wheels when it senses slipping on one of them?

if this is the case could my diff need fixing because i seem to have a lot of 1 tire fire. when i take a corner with a bit of speed i can feel it trying to slip, and a few weeks ago i got stuck in sand cuz only 1 wheel was spinning. then again last week i almost got stuck in a patch of snow because only 1 wheel was spinning with some force (the other one was spinning but not nearly as much as the passenger side.) it always seems to be the passenger side wheel that wants to spin by itself too.

    i appreciate any help :D

The Auto LSD stuff just started being installed IIRC. If your paperwork didn't have LSD od e-locker or whatever in it you have an open diff.

I'd rather have an LSD if you are worried about on road slipping thru corners....but that's just me

There a difference between 2010 and your 2007 traction controls... Do you have a VSC OFF switch (which is how the newer Tacomas turn on AUTO LSD). I had a 2005, which didn't have the TRAC or VSC like my 2010 does, so I don't know when they were started in Tacomas.

Well, AUTO LSD is one of those "traction control stuff" things... What is your question, again?

How well does the LSD work on your 2010? I have a steep gravel drive way in WNC and sometimes it is tricky to get up when it is real dry in my 2002 non 4x4.
    Thanks,

I got my LockRight for about $350. I have not installed it yet, but it should be going in soon. I just found some 4.10s to go with the LockRight.

But if you have money for ARB, air locker (p/n RD129) it's about $800, air compressor about $200, and about $400 to have it installed. I was quoted between $1600 to $2000 for parts and labor.

LockRight should be good for my setup.

    Hi Vince,

I have posted many times here of how well the TRAC and A-TRAC have worked (in 4WD) on the beach and in the desert... no deflating of tires needed, compared to my '05 and '01 Tacomas, in the sand.

Last month, I played with the AUTO LSD (in 2WD) and had some fun making 'rooster tails' when I accelerated from a stop... This was not as easy to do with TRAC in 2WD because there is engine output regulation in TRAC in H2... also, the braking force is lighter than in AUTO LSD. Becaue I have the Off Road TRD (with A-TRAC), I have the hydraulic brake booster that gives a superior LSD over all other Tacomas with their vacuum brake booster TRAC/ AUTO LSD.

I can only recommend that you get the TRD OFF ROAD 4WD when you trade in the 2002 2WD... There will be no question of being able to climb up your driveway... or any other steep hill you want to climb!

    David,
Thanks for the info on LSD. I just sold my Dodge 2500 diesel 4x4 which of course went up the drive way just fine. I didn't need that much truck anymore so it's now snowplowing in Chicago.
I might trade my 2002 Taco for a new one this summer if I need it for WNC.
I was up there last week with my Taco and it did fine for me but my wife had problems getting up the driveway. She panics and guns it.
She has a new 2010 Subaru Outback so she won't have a problem when we have both vehicles there.
Anyway, i would like to avoid the 4x4 since that is the only place where it's needed.
    Vince
