Fun yes, but not a good investment at all - gun depreciate (and are anything but scarce). For investment, a Roth, or any employer sponsored retirement plan is a far better use of funds. In this economy home (owner) improvements are also a very prudent choice.

Bullshit. Guns are the one thing that doesn't depreciate. There is not a gun I own, I own a lot, that if I needed to right now, could get my money back or more.

I should've done this from the start.

    Current mod list:

    TRD Pro Grill
Switch pro 8100 (possibly for sale, need to post in marketplace)
    BFG KO2s
    Ultimate turns signals (amazing btw)
Door sill protectors with matching truck color inlay stickers
Hard bed cover (came with truck)
    Ditch light brackets
Rigid d2 hyper spots (just one because other one got cut off my truck and stolen)
Weather tech mats front and back
    Stock Mudguards

    Mods I'm considering:

    $250 audio upgrade
    Ray 10s
Lift (maybe 5100 but would really like to have kings/icon)
    Sliders
    Full Skids
    TRD pro tail lights
    Leather seats

Or take my money and max my ROTH. I've got a budget set aside to handle that within the first two quarters of this year but the earlier the max the more growth is untaxed.

Part of my thought as well is I get enjoyment in installling some of these things. Sort of a hobby.

I'll edit this list if I can think of anything else

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
Here is a novel idea: spend half on whatever -- save/invest the other half.
Side note -- back in the late 70's my father gave each one of his 5 sons the exact amoumt 1K -- with one stipulation we had to open a IRA with it. I wish that I could somehow track that 1k from back then -- how it has grown. This was our first retirement (IRA)

Thanks for the advice. You do not have to worry about my investments. I have it on lock! I'm interested to hear what you would do to a Tacoma with $1000 or even $500 like you were saying.

I appreciate everyone's advice about investing. I encourage everyone to contribute to a company matched 401/501 etc.

Agree to disagree - very few models of guns are of collector quality to appreciate, and no gun has a tax advantage like home ownership or retirement investment vehicles do. I really think you'd be hard pressed to sell a used gun at new price when a potential buyer could just go down to the gun store. I admit that as a piece of personal property they hold value very well, but as an investment you could do much better. Buy a gun for fun, for security, or just for the hell of it, but not for an investment.

Have been doing this for a long time. I can count on one hand the number of times I lost money on selling a weapon. That being said, I am well invested in other places, real estate, land, usual shit. I just like guns and that business has been very good to me.

I totally get what you're saying - I have a bunch of guns myself and over the years have never lost any money selling them. However, investing is about making money not about not losing money. Also, I don't really want to sell any of 'em.

No rubbing on my stock suspension (Icon 8 pending) with 265/75r16s on the stock wheels.
To your $1,000...save up [more] for suspension upgrade if you are trying to do something cool, or perhaps Clazzio seat covers if want something to be cool.
Or buy your wife something, then she will feel so guilty she'll let you spend $2k the next time you've saved that!

Understood. Never lost enough to make a difference. Small amounts here and there. I have my FFL, so I am not selling my personal stuff.

Man I want to live in whatever seller's market you live in.

OP, figure out what you actually need on your truck, or what you really want, then get that. Nobody here can tell you what you want the most.

But, I will say this- if you wheel at all, you absolutely have to get a 12v compressor. Saving the quarters and trips to the air pump is invaluable.
