It is pouring down rain out there now, and it is covered with mud from running down dirt roads yesterday...I'll get some when the weather breaks.

Have pics from when I did the ball joints, CV's, drive shaft, rear bearings but they aren't that good, as I wasn't really taking pictures of the frame.

All trucks fall apart in the rust belt. That being said, Toyota frames seem to fall apart faster. You can still see lots of classic body F150's and Silverado's on the road here. Zero 1st gen Tacoma's unless they were brought in from the southern US.

Could be. I'd also suggest it was likely materials used and coatings used. Actually I just hope that they finally got it right on my 2013. Lots of early second gen trucks here had a frame recall. If that happens I'll be trading in on something not from Toyota. Don't get me wrong, I love my truck and I've had so many great outdoor experiences with it that it'll be tough to get rid of, but if the frames are no good I'll go to a company that can at least get basic metallurgy right. Yes, I know someone else makes the frame for the Tacoma for Toyota, but still Toyota has had over 10 years to make adjustments and it seems like bad frames keep coming up as an issue. Kudo's to Toyota for at least taking care of it.

My experiences with both Ford and Ford taking care of any issues have been really good on several vehicles. F150's in particular, other than a single dud they gave my company excellent trade in value on I've had really good trucks for over 150K.

You mean like how at the bottom of the article it says 1.34 vehicles are being recalled for this issue, which brings the total to 5 million recalled for door latch issues?

shouldn't have to pay $45k for a vehicle with frozen doors because of shody quality control, think of all the time wasted sitting at the Ford dealership trying to get a new fords doors to work properly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXabSZAZSnU

It's actually partially the same vehicles. IE that stat is over several dozen models that have similar styles of door latches and definitely not every vehicle is having issues. I would know. I own an F150 lol. I live in Canada in a very ice prone area. My door has always worked. Last time I was frozen out of a vehicle was as ex-girlfriends Corolla lol.

I always stop watching the moment Microsoft same is the narriator of a Youtube video lol. Real unbiased pro's use his voice and static clips, right?:p

As for the doors freezing shut, I've never had a problem on my 2016 though it was part of the recall. Every gen of Tacoma has had it's fair share of recalls too including the brand new 3rd gens. I'm not sure where you two are going with this. If it's a comment against Ford quality overall it's really a comment about the entire industry as a whole. Recalls happen, and happen lots, we all just have to hope that they aren't fatality causing ones like the GM ignition issues.

If all manufacturers frames need protected from corrosion, then that tells me it's more of a chemically induced frame corroding location, than it is a frame manufacturing process.

Where I was going was countering the argument someone made that the ranger will be perfect in comparison to the 3rd gen, so I pointed out that the f-150 wasn't perfect, why would the ranger be? Obviously no one is perfect, and everyone has recalls. somehow in the one being called out for stating no ones perfect. Hence the fuck me right.

I don't remember telling you to fuck yourself but text is open to interpretation. I wasn't following your conversation that far back, I just noticed the comment in the vein that all F150 door handles freeze shut or break when I haven't had that experience on any of my work trucks in a very cold climate with server temperature swings that bust up pavement like it was plaster.

I think you may need to step out for a minute and remember this forum is a terrible, terrible, place for respectful conversation. Those ended when the 3rd gen forum was started. It seems like from your profile we drive the same basic Tacoma underneath the mods. Same team, same team ;).

From what I've read on here and from established sources the company that manufacturers the Tacoma frame did a really poor job of prepping them for coating and storing the frames after coating before shipping them to Toyota which is what has caused most of the 1st gen and early 2nd gen issues. The other factor is that the 2nd gen frames are made out of a milder steel than most modern half tons which also tends to corrode faster. The company that makes Toyota frames has been bought out and made significant changes but some of the recalls and frame replacements extend beyond those changes. In any case, it doesn't leave me feeling very confident that my Tacoma won't need a new frame within 7 years and that's just too short a period of time for a vehicle to need that sort of repair.

Dana made the frames I believe. I didnt think you told me to fuck off, it was just my way of saying my point wasn't well made, my bad. A few posts before that article is where you'll find the post regarding fords superior quality building of a truck that isn't available yet, which is where I mentioned the story of the f150s, and was told my two weren't indicative of a widespread problem, hence the link to the recall notice. Having said all that, the third gen section is generally a shit show. Agreed, same team, same team.

Dana did make the frames, but they built them to Toyota's specs. My broader point is that quality control issues happen regardless of manufacturer and regardless of the price of the vehicle. We can just as easily talk about cracking leaf springs or unintended accleration to illustrate the point. :notsure:

the moral of the story is Toyota replaced the frames on tacomas deemed unsafe, whereas Ford told their owners to suck a Lemon(Ford)
