5100's all around, OME 887 with 1/4" spacer, icon 3 leaf aal. 255/75/17 BFG KM's on 4runner pro's. Rigid led pods. Debadged and tinted.
I've had the same argument for mud. A skinny tire cuts through to get to the bottom. If it's "bottomless" it will cut until you're sitting on your axles. I hate mud. This was my last working day in southern Colorado, before I moved to Denver.

Just for reference, those are 34" Toyo m/ts on an f250 with a 3" lift. I should've chained up that day.

Oh stop being rational. Next thing you will tell me is I should switch my chains to synthetic lines and secure them with a Factor55 closed loop traction system. :D

Not quite but the addition of a flame thrower might be a good idea. :D

if skinny tire is better on snow, then i guess all these guys got it wrong...

skinny is better on hard pack and ice since you have greater pressure per sq in. or whatever measurement you want... same would go with snowy/hard pack roads. if you're offroad on snow, you can air down and have a larger contact patch like the artic guys aim for. skinnier tire, you're more likely to sink in lower and could cause you to get hung up on the body faster. if you're not in snow that is deep enough to hit the IFS skid and/or diff, then skinny is fine since you can still move even if you bottom out.

    no comment on mud... ih8mud

    ALL OF THEM!...Then some more.
A group of us got into this discussion so much we did the math for it once. The contact pattern of a 33x10.5(255) vs a 33x12.5(295) was almost the same. The biggest difference was the shape of the contact point. Both are rectangles, but the skinny tires length is longer parallel to the truck front to rear. The wider tire is perpendicular.

The pressure per sq inch or whatever was the same but because the shape of the pattern was very different it makes the tires behave differently

Like turn in. The long edge of a skinny tire runs front to back. So when you go to turn, the long edge is the gripping fighting edge. This means the turn in on skinny tires is very good. On a wide tire, the short edge of the contact pattern is the biting gripping edge, which isn't very big so you slide more easily.

Its also why there is more rolling resistance, the wide edge is the leading edge on a wide tire, thus more resistance which means less power and worse mpgs. Compared to a skinny tire which has a short leading edge of the contact pattern.

Either way, they both have advantages/disadvantages. Having run 12.5'' wide tires for a long time and also 255s. I'll take the 12.5s any day of the week when offroading. WAY smoother ride. The 255s have been great though, no complaints. Other then a much harsher ride all around compared to a fat tire.

So....pick you poison. Can't win at everything in this area. Always a compromise with tires.

What are you looking to get out of this? I'm not exactly in the market for it, but it looks like the size might be right, and I'm a sucker for spending money on shit I don't need.

I have four (4) 265/75r16 Michelin A/T2s on first gen alloys for sale. Probably 70% life left in them.

$300, need them out of my tiny apartment garage as soon as possible.
