that's exactly my thought. was going to play around with it this weekend if my hardware for my mounting feet come in need 8 1/4 tnuts to mount the cross bars than I can do the rest.

 

I just wonder if removing some of the crossbars that attach to the side of the rack will make it lose it's rigidity? it's pretty flimsy when you don't have all the supports in.

 

oh I agreed I ordered extra cross bars from the website I linked above I had to order all new black 1x2 cross bars cause I had the older style in sliver

 

I was hoping to not order more hahaha

 

oh I know my issue is I bought a used rack from a friend and well ended up replacing a lot more than I realized. should of just bought new in the end, but oh well didn't have to wait months to get it. oh well saved the rack from a fiery inferno a week later, he burned his truck down to the ground up in the mountains due to heated seats being left on too long.

 

Not sure if you have the same buckles. The straps were fraying, you can just melt or dip the ends to get them through the buckle easier. My concern is long term dry rotting with no way to replace the webbing. That's why I'm putting on the toggle latches.

 

Best thing to cut those straps with is poultry shears.

 

If you are going to cut them do it at an angle to make it easier to thread through the buckle.

Ohhhh... ratcheting straps? That would freaking rock! I wonder how difficult it would be to swap those out.

 

Yeah, probably just drill the rivets out and replace.

Yeah, that's what I think they were referring to. There might be cheaper options available once you start digging.

 

Did you get those latches mounted? Can you share photos? How's it working for you?

Yeah, just noticed the latch last night. I’m thinking if it’s not broke, don’t fix it. And it’s good to know there’s an alternative if they ever do break.
