Not sure how that would work, I would contact your insurance company to ask. I am going through the other drivers insurance as they were found 100% at fault

Not sure i would file a another claim with my insurance. It’s robbing Peter to pay Paul

Did your insurance pay out and fix your truck?

I had some vehicles badly damaged by hail. Parts replaced and repainted etc. My insurance (Safeco) would not pay diminished value. Their claim is that once it’s fixed it’s as good as new which is BS.

How is asking then to pay DV robbing Peter to pay Paul? The purpose of insurance is to pay you when they are supposed to. If I was supposed to get DV and they didn’t because I “didn’t ask” then they should pay. I pay them monthly to pay me if there is an incident.

Make a claim and your rates typically go up...

More claims means higher rates and difficult to shop around for cheaper insurance.

They don’t care who’s fault it is. I had Several claims for hail and they raised my rates and when I shopped around I kept Getting the you have too many claims excise when the rates were insane.

I agree. You should be able use the service you pay for. But why do so many handle small claims themselves? Hmmm.

Call them, file a claim. Best of luck.

not if the claim isn't your fault. i have had several fender benders, etc and none have been my fault and my insurance has never gone up. there was was one that was even a 50/50 fault, didn't go up. I know everyone thinks your insurance just goes up every time you have to use them, but thats not true. at least not with my insurance. and i just have Geico. nothing special.

Maybe you’ve gotten lucky or had good history but insurance rates are just an equation. That equation doesn’t care if it’s your fault or not...it cares about how much money they have paid out to you and how likely you are to file another claim.

If it’s not your fault I assume your not filing against your policy.

I can only speak from personal experience. Your mileage may vary.

I thought you were the OP. If you were in a wreck that only cost 2,000.00 in repairs, they aren’t going to give you diminished value. The OP in this thread only has 8,000 miles on his truck and it’s been hit 3 times already. THAT is why he is seeking diminished value.

If the other driver is at-fault, your rates won't go up. If they ARE going up in this situation... I'd seriously question the integrity of your insurance company.

Exactly. if your rates are going up and it wasn't your fault, get a new insurance company. last guy that hit me, was his fault, he tried to get "same day insurance" after he hit me (took me forever to get his info because he was on the phone trying to get insurance) took my insurance forever to realize he got insurance after the accident, so now they have it as him being uninsured driver. so my insurance had to cover all my repairs and then deal with getting money back in their own time. my rates didn't go up. wasn't my fault an uninsured driver hit me. Again, if you are not at fault and your rates are going up because you are using your insurance, not only find another, but i believe you would have a legal case as i don't believe they can legally raise your rates on you.

There may be some insurance guys on here that can explain this better but, while your rates should not go up for an accident that is not your fault, they can. A dirty little secret that many insurance companies try to hide is a little thing known as no fault points. Basically, if you have enough claims, they can add up and eventually cost you, even if the claims are not your fault. Some people, because of the type of usage of their vehicles, are just more prone to accidents than others so those no fault points can add up. It is wrong but it happens. Best of luck.

I'm already so in California and I filed a claim 6 months after the accident, no issues I'm not sure about diminished value I have not ever dealt with that but will be in the future after reading this thread.

@kuee, Could you post a pic of your Expedition One bumper by chance? I'm trying to decide between that one and the premium from Fab Fours. Thanks if you can

My 2004 Tacoma was rear ended 4 times. Each time my steel bumper and hitch receiver destroyed the plastic front end of the vehicle that hit me. I never got even a scratch. And I looked..... hard.

One way to go about this might be to take the vehicle in to a dealership, be straightforward about the accident, and get a written trade-in offer. Then run a KBB for the truck w/no accident. Compare the two, and I'd say the difference is your diminished value. If that number is significantly greater than $1500, then go to war with the insurance company, and now you have documentation to support your case. You certainly shouldn't just accept it out of hand.
