Any idea if there is an easy way to visually identify if my frame has the updated mounts?

I know its "05-06" but that is pretty arbitrary considering the varying dates of manufacture and the fact that some 06s were manufactured in 05 and some in 06.. I know this has created some confusion with the head gasket updates as well which also affected "05-06 models"

Generally all models manuf. after the 7th month of the year on tag are next year models

I understand that, but that doesn't necessarily mean they didn't make changes at another time correct? I believe mine was manufactured 03/06 so later in terms of 06 production... the head gasket was apparently updated sometime in the middle of production in the 06 year, so Im assuming its possible these were changed sometime in the middle of the year of production and not necessarily as soon as the 2007 production sarted.

Yes they will generally make in year changes to problematic areas. I do not know exactly when they addressed the frame reinforcement. Usually on chassis changes they wait till new model year but I could be wrong, engine changes are much easier to do for the Factory.

If you go about 1/2 way down this page, it shows pics of the factory update.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/05-motor-mounts-failed-failing.21849/

My 06 was built in September 05. It has 200K miles on it and it's not cracked yet, but I'm just about to do a major front end rebuild and lift and I'm going to weld in the DMZ gussets while it's all apart.

Believe me, I understand what youre saying.. But, I cant keep pouring money into this truck. Its not worth it anymore. Its got 167K on it and theres enough problems as it is. Im not going to pay someone to remove all the necessary parts, pay to have it towed to and from the welding shop, then pay a welder $500 or more to fix it. Just doesnt make sense to me. Not expecting toyota to give me everything under the sun, just feel as though they should do something since its a design flaw in the engineering process. Nothing I did, have done or will do should have caused this, so why should I have to pay thousands to fix their mistake. On top of it all, I have a leaking timing cover... Once again, a mistake at the factory that I have to shell out $1700 for. By the time I get done with all the necessary repairs, the truck will be worth nothing. Sorry for the rant, but Im a little aggravated about the whole situation.

Something that lasted 167,000 miles can hardly be considered a design flaw. Even though it IS a design flaw, Toyota doesn't owe you anything. Ford owners would be thrilled to only spend the kind of money that a Toyota needs. If you want to drive a Tacoma and not spend money on maintenance, buck up and spend $35K on a turd gen.

:rofl: there are more design flaws in the 3rd gens than the 2nd gens.

Thats the plan. I just need to be able to sell this one before that happens.

Well maybe more like 7.5 since all the suspension is brand new and theres a brand new set of KO2s on her.
