They sell thousands and thousands of these trucks every month. 20 guys complaining on an enthusiast’s forum doesn’t constitute a very good gauge of opinion. I really like the 3.5. If it proves to be reliable, I’m all good with it. Would I like more power? I dunno......I kinda like the fuel economy, so maybe not.

They are nice. If you never stumbled across TW, you might buy one and be ecstatic about it, including the engine/tranny combo. This forum tends to feed one’s paranoia. “Is my tranny shifting too much?.....is my engine lugging?”......yadayada.

Truth is I can’t tell much difference between driving a 2nd Gen and 3rd Gen, having the chance to drive both quite often. They are both mostly gutless like every Toyota pickup ever made. Is the 3rd Gen slightly more gutless than the 2nd Gen?.....probably......but you might not notice unless your were looking for it. The fact is the 3rd Gen still has way more power than the old Toyota SR5 pickups that everyone was ok with......so it’s a matter of perspective.

I hope I bought an underpowered, but reliable and efficient pickup. Time will tell. No issues so far.

Toyota is receiving complaints from a larger community than just a few on the forums. Lol.

Wrong implementation of an engine for its intended purposes. A test of sorts that the consumer ends up paying for.

Yeah, the hundreds they sell every day are just to people who want to experience all the problems 1st hand.

Leave it to the consumer to be the innovator to overcoming flaws and shortcomings. As well as a grassroots aftermarket to follow.

I'm contemplating this as we speak. The other issue I have with the 3rd gen is the crappy response when you hit the gas pedal. If you're sitting in neutral or park on a third gen and hit the gas, it'll take 1-2 seconds for the motor to respond. Do the same thing on a 2nd gen and it is noticeably closer in response. Shit gets real when you're punching it to make a left hand turn and the 3rd gen sits there and revs.
