I just had new Michelin Defender LTX tires put on my 2014 4 door 4x4 tacoma now I have bad vibration. I went from the 240/75 the 265/70 tires. I have taken it back where I bought the tires 3 days in a row. they have used Road Force balancing 3 times & now say they think i have drivetrain problems causing the vibration. Any Ideas about this.

Alignment? Did your old tires wear out evenly?

Do you feel the vibration in the steering wheel? Rotate the tires, front to rear and rear to front, and take notice to whether the vibration changes. If it changes it’s a tire. If the vibe stays exactly the same, may be driveline. I would suspect tire if it happened as soon as you put the new tires on.

Some tires just don’t balance perfectly, no matter the amount of rebalancing. Mine have never balanced perfectly.

If you didn’t have a vibration before the new tires and now you do. I would question there theory.

Just tell the place that you bought them from that Want a new set of tires, if you bought them new.. Most tire manufactures give you 30 days trail period on a new set of tires..Not uncommon to get a set that won't balance out correctly.

If a tire isn't round they may be able to balance it and it will come out right on the machine, but when you put it on the road it shakes.

A driveline vibration will be pretty fast, almost a hum at high speed. A tire will be more of a shake, approximately 1/4 or 1/2 the speed, depending on the defect.

I had the same issue with my 2nd set of tires (BFGs) they put on 4 new sneaks and I noticed it vibrating the minute I left. I took them back for a rebalance and the idiot just counter balanced them with weights on opposite sides.... after making them balance the a 3rd time and rotate them the shake was in the rear.

I had them change brands of tire to the Bridgestone Deuler AT Revos and the ride was better than it was with the OE BFGs.

They have been my tire of choice ever since. super stable and never let me down.

Forgot to mention that excessive runout turned out to be the issue.

No doubt about the Bridgestone Deuler AT Revos, can't go wrong with them, excellent in the snow.

Road Force Balance is an excellent machine.

Assuming the tech actually 1) knows how to use it 2) makes the effort needed to use it properly.

It's a two step process. Step one is a normal spin balance. If it works well, Road Force never happens. If it needs Road Force, you'll see bead breaking and shifting of the tire on the wheel to line up wheel/tire sweet spots, then re testing and actual balancing. Good bit of extra labor.

Did you get to watch the process and see if any of that was happening?

I bet it is still a tire balance issue. It took me 6 tries at 3 different places, including the dealer, to find someone that could balance mine correctly. Like the others have said, since it started right after the tires were replaced it's highly unlikely to be drive line related.

I didn't read past the first post. I have vibrations every time I go to the tire shop. Your wheels are balanced. They were just put on carelessly. You need to evenly tighten the lugs starting at low torque, using a star pattern. I tighten to 30 pounds, then 70, then final tightness (85 is spec, but I go 100).

If the first lug is over tightened, the wheel will not be truly centered. No shop will do this properly for you. Heavy tires magnify the problem - mine are 60 pounds each, just the rubber.

So changing from the 245/75 16to a 265/70 16 wouldn't have anything to do with it

Not at all, if I were you I would have went to 265/75/16 instead, the 75 will give you a 1" taller tire and have your speedo reading the correct speed.

    - ICON UCAs, BP51/Kings, SCS wheels, 285s, Leer 100XR canopy. Greenlane aluminum winch bumper, Smittybilt X20 winch. Trying Falken AT3w now, Really like BF KO2s.
I had a bad vibration around when I changed tires, it turned out I had a bad u joint.
I did think it was the tires at first, multiple balancing attempts.

I had them checked at Toyota dealer yesterday. They said they were fine just needed grease which they did. Thanks for the suggestion
