I wrapped it in late early November while in Texas. The entire bedside is wrapped not just passed the trim. The grey your seeing is the wheel arch trim and the adhesive gasket that adheres the trim along the edge. I don’t like to primer the whole area, especially since this is textured plastic (that’d be a PITA to get off and possibly ruin the finish). Primer 94 Was on the sharp corner that once existed .

If it is a molded plastic piece (like 4 wheeler/dirt bike shrouds) you have to flash them with a propane torch to get anything to stick to the mould release they use on the parts, followed by plenty of 94 (especially if it is not a smooth glossy surface).

Primer 94 (even 5+ years old) usually comes off pretty easy with adhesive remover but even denatured alcohol and a little elbow grease works well.

You only have to be careful if its on flat-paint, soaking it and keeping it wet in the alcohol usually softens it so it doesn't take as much rubbing (which could shine up the paint).

Thanks for the tips Cazzwell. Maybe it’s the adhesive remover I’ve been using that gives me issues on textured plastic. I wrapped the truck in a climate controlled shop. I didn’t preheat it, but I used a new type of film that had a slightly different adhesive compared to most ink jet film. It requires quite a bit of post heat and can take quite a bit of heat too. I forget the post heat temp and times on it off the top of my head. I can’t complain much since it was free film from the rep. I like and have been using it on a commercial fleet I’m doing.

Idk, maybe they looked at it and peeled it up and panicked and said to Hell w it and ripped it or they did it to be an ass. Either way it sucks, but good thing is I can have a section printed and re wrap it while it’s somewhat fresh.

We use orange peel adhesive remover. But cleaning surfaces and allowing to dry after using any adhesive remover before reapplying is one of the hardest, since it can lead to failures later on if not done properly.

Our bucket truck and F-150 are usually testing grounds for a couple different wrap materials the reps try to pawn off on us, but we usually stick to 3M IJ180mc-10 + 3M 8518 for vehicle decals and wraps.

The only time we use anything else is if the customer specifies, or when we do concession trailers. Then we'll use orajet 3561 + oracal 210 since it seems to hold up to the road chips and people picking at it a little better, but its a little finnikey and only good for flat panels.

Most vinyl wraps don't need preheat, unless there are a lot of tight compound curves like a around a side mirror or if its cold where you're working, but do need to be post heated (IJ180 needs to be 180°F/90°C)

Yeah, I want to make a different kind of tailgate. I don't want a swing out tire carrier because I use my truck like a truck and haul shit all the time. I've been thinking about a tailgate that has a spare tire mount and that I can still fold it down.

Saw this for sale on here as a custom one of a kind thing. It doesn't fold down though. I want to do basically this but will still operate like a tailgate.
