I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that the PRO attracts probably a younger buying demographic. I'm also going to assume that some of those people also don't fully realize the impact of a high monthly payment or the overall amount of debt they've added... I mean granted, you see this all the time with the latest hot new whatever. As you say, people rush out to buy it without thinking it through and it winds up for sale with 5k miles on the clock.

That being said, the PRO is worth every penny!

I'm 59 3/4 years young and after driving (and really liking) a sport, a limited, and an OR, decided the fully loaded OR was the way to go. Stumbled onto a Pro by accident and pulled the trigger (over the phone, never having seen one in person) on the spot. Zero regrets, I love it. Figured I could easily sell it if it was a mistake but I can tell you it wasn't! Do I need a Pro? Probably not. Happy as hell? Yup. Do I plan on rethinking my decision and trading for a limited or an OR? No friggin' way!

I have to agree with Docoma Pro. I just turned 50 and this was my choice for a mid life crazy car. Could have bought a corvette or any other sports car. Instead I chose a top of the line Taco. No regrets.

I'm with Docoma Pro as well. I'm in my 50's and wanted a truck I could have fun with. I paid MSRP and wouldn't have bought it if they wanted a "market adjustment". As it is I ended up driving 150 miles to pay MSRP, but I couldn't be happier with the truck. I have an RC350 and end up driving the truck all the time now.

Exception or norm, not sure... I'm 52 and loving my PRO, probably the last truck and hopefully will last me into my retirement. We shall see! I drive this truck more than my tuned '16 GTI, but It's fun to switch between the two.

I looked at a Raptor, a Colorado ZR2, 2 Porsche Cayennes (an S and a GTS), and a Range Rover Sport. Mid life crisis? Maybe a little but the fact is, I'm fortunate in that I can afford to drive any of these trucks. I fell in love with the Tacoma, it's functionality, it's somewhat youthful flair, it's Toyota dependability, and it's value. It's not perfect but it's damn near perfect for me and what I wanted/needed. None of the others put the same smile on my face or made me feel like the Taco did. Decision made. And when I was lucky enough to stumble onto a Cavalry Blue Pro? Icing on the cake! Why not spend a couple grand more and grab the top of the heap! I must admit, I do like the fact that it's a rare bird. Not many Pros around!

My thoughts exactly. Everyone is making it seem like it’s tons more money than a TRD Off-road. Add in all the options that a Pro has, and you’ve closed the gap to maybe a $3-4K increase, assuming you didn’t pay over MSRP. For that money, it’s not all cosmetic. 2.5 inch Fox Shox, 1” lift springs, hood with scoop, grill, rigid lights, unique badges, unique leather interior, unique and sexy wheels, TRD exhaust.... I think I’m WELL over $4K right there. More like $7-8K worth of stuff if you added it to an OR editon. The value is there, for the right buyers... not the fruggle ones

    Nice thread gentlemen,
I've been owning and driving Toyota's for a looong time. That's my between the lines way of telling you I'm older than anyone has stated yet. I'm currently driving a 2011 DCSB TX Pro and while I'm not a proponent of all the technology, I have to admit some it very useful. And I am an off road guy from Mar/Apr to Dec. I'm on the list for a 2018 TRD Pro (probably April) and in an effort to be proactive I've been following the 3rd gen thread since early Nov 2017, especially rear diff noise and shifting hoopla. There's no noted faults here, are these noted dissatisfactions a little over rated?
    Cheers
    Bob

I am 47 years old and purchased my TRD Pro about a week ago and have no regrets. In Southern California dealers selling TRD Pros for MSRP are few and far between so plan on waiting awhile to get one from these dealers or plan on driving some miles to find a dealer making deals on their Pros. That being said, after seeing a blue TRD Pro parked out front the dealer down the street I decided to walk into the dealer and tell them I wanted the Pro but did not want to pay the 10K dealer mark up. They asked me what I was willing to pay I told them $1500 was fair. Plus I liked this truck only had a few hundred dollars of dealer add ons i.e.; mud flaps, all weather mats etc... I traded my 09 with over 200,000 miles for well over KBB so this made me feel the dealer mark up was a wash and knowing I was within a few hundred dollars of where I wanted to be we made a deal ...plus 2 years free maintenance and HB annual beach parking pass. Truck was kinda a impulse buy so the next day I called a bunch of dealers to check if I over paid and I never found one that did not have a market adjustment over MSRP even a few were 15k over quoting me close to 70k OTD  . I really like the truck and pleased I purchased through my local dealer...the reason being yesterday I saw a crack in my tail light so I stopped by the dealer on my way home and they told me no problem and ordered a new one no questions asked since I just bought the truck from them...To sum up I cannot believe how much better my TRD Pro drives than my 09 TRD Sport and I’m very glad that I pulled the trigger and bought this truck.

Also my wifes car has all the safety features automatic accident braking, lane assist, reads text pages, etc... so I’ve beeen waiting for Toyota to add them to the Tacoma for 18.:yay:

I have to admit the tranny shiftiness is annoying. I'd much rather have the ECT switch be on by default instead of off, other than that I have no complaints.

Ill be 60 in 2 weeks. I've driven a Ranger 98, Tacoma Sport 2010 and now own a Chevy Colorado 2015. I have considered the Denali Canyon which has its creature comforts. I have to admit the Pro really really catches my eye and quite frankly at where I am in life finacially I can afford one so why not. Its hard to believe my first car was brand new and cost $4400.00. Chevy Nova Rally edition 78.

Mine has a build date of Sept 17, and am very pleased that I'm not having any if these issues as others have described. As far as the tranny, it was definitely and adjustment that I made to modulate the pedal and probably have just been getting used to it. I have to admit though, with almost 3500 miles, in fact just a few days ago, I swore the truck felt pretty normal. It may be that the transmission was learning and adjusting all along. My advice, just don't be afraid to push the pedal, the power is there, but the throttle by wire is pretty numb and feels disconnected. Feel frisky?...use the ECT mode, but now
I am accepting of the way the tranny shifts, as I've learned how to drive with it. No regrets here!!

For me my first car was a 77 Toyota Celica GT That I purchased used in 87 for $900 drove it for three years and sold it for around $1800 :woot: Or my last Tacoma I purchased was a fully loaded TRD Sport DCLB with a sticker of $29,900 (they sure have gone up  ). 2009 being right in the middle of the recession both Toyota and my dealer were very motivated to continue to sell vehicles so with rebates and dealer discounts I purchased for $24K before TTL. Then traded it in 9 years later with over 200,000 miles for almost $10k.

    2017 Pro - purchased in Oct 2016

I found one in GA and a dealer who would deal a little.
Paid 43.9 and I got a whole bunch of accessories, warranty etc. I sold off the accessories (tonneau, mats, etc) for about $600 cash, so I was at $43 plus TTL after all was done.

Be prepared to travel or ship.

I’m not sure anyone here is asserting a Pro will be on BJ in 40 years, but I’m certain it’ll return more investment than a standard OR (I bought because a close friend is a 10 year toyota dealer and he regaled me in stories of returned value of the 2015 Pro). It costs more because it’ll be worth more in the short term.

First car was a used '66 beetle. Loved that car and wish I still had it. I think I got it for $800. Sold it for $1500. Still should have just kept it and garaged it. To bad hindsight is 20/20 and not foresight... Worse, I could have gotten a '64 911 for $1600. I'll never forgive my mom for not letting me buy that car, lol.

KSJ, I see you've already swapped to 75 series KO2s, how's the ride, handling and any noticeable increase in tire noise?
