Oh Man.. the new area up north looks nice..
Lots of fun terrain out there. You get rocks, mud, ice and the whole nine yards. I'm sure it was a breeze for @cynicalrider and those rocking 35s:headbang:

Lol hardly. You just need some locking diffs and you’ll be all set! I love wheeling with open rigs again just to watch them do everything they can do.

Haha they definitely helped, but the lockers def got a work out too. First hill climb I did took the wind out of my sails. Need studs or chains. Been two years since I wheeled snow and ice, so damn fun.

Well today was eventful for sure...
    Warning: Pic Heavy
Me, @cynicalrider and his passenger, @V5ioV @Wheelspinner @Rockbaron1 @JCjeeper and @Subway4X4 went up north for another trip. It was mike, fabio, and steves first time up there, pat had been up there in the past and me, jeremy, and lloyd are regulars.
We met up at 9:30, hit the trails by around 10.
Right when we hit the first trail I realized today was gonna be slick. I tried it first and got a short distance before slipping a ton and basically sliding back down with the brakes locked up. Mike attempted it and had a similar issue. Steve did it last and showed everyone up by flying up and really getting on the skinny pedal, after he came back down we decided to head a different way.

Went down the same old trail with some neat sights but nothing hard, I jokingly said over the CB that steve could cut a tree down thats been blocking the trail for years. I didnt expect him to actually do it haha, was fun to watch, Steve made easy work of it and it was cleared pretty quick, its a satisfying feeling to see it cleared. We had a minor issue with Steves rear passenger wheel locking up, everyone suspected a stuck or frozen parking brake was to blame, not too sure what happened but a couple bangs on the hub with a D-ring and messing with the locker got it freed.

    DSC08312.jpg
    DSC08313.jpg

We moved on and came to the first real obstacle; the rocky bypass.
I took the water route as usual, didnt want to attempt this (especially in the snow) without sliders. First up was Jeremy, open/open wasn't working in his favor and he was struggling so he bailed and took the easy route. Pat was next, again a few issues sliding around on the rock faces, even locked there was just no traction. Pat tried a few different lines and eventually gassed it and made it over the crest.
    DSC08314.jpg
    DSC08315.jpg
Steve was next, slipped a lot but got over the rock faces with some juice, on his way up however he caught the tree to the side and it started digging into his bedside. Steve chopped it with Lloyds chainsaw to avoid ripping out the tail light, and he moved up slightly before getting high centered (I believe). Winched over it relatively easily. True #nfg

    DSC08319.jpg
    DSC08320.jpg
Next up was Mike. With the tree cleared he had a much cleaner run without having to worry too much about his passenger side. Still lots of slipping and bouncing but eventually he got a good line going and crawled up.
    DSC08321.jpg
Last was lloyd, going up this way had been a struggle before so Im assuming to keep it moving he decided to take the go around.
    DSC08324.jpg

Next trail was an easy one. I have 0 pictures of anything on this trail for some reason. There weren't any challenges really aside from a hole I had to take a different route to get out of. Nice scenery, the small off camber section and the stream and waterfall were neat.

Came out to the lines, right off the bat I was having trouble getting up an off camber section, I tried gassing it but either I didnt have the balls to go fast enough or I was just losing all my momentum as soon as I hit a boulder near the end. Lloyd and I both took the go around.
Pat crawled straight up this spot with a bit of momentum, made easy work of it, didnt even have time to get pics of him. Steve went up a ledge to the right that I attempted as well, he floored it and popped over it in a couple attempts.
    DSC08325.jpg
Mike went up the off camber spot almost as effortlessly as Pat and continued up through a second section as well.
    DSC08328.jpg
    DSC08330.jpg
    DSC08332.jpg

Went up to some rock faces and ledges. There were 2 ways to approach this spot, the right was significantly easier and the left was a bit more involved usually. I went up relatively easily, slipped a bit but no problem. Pat came up quick as well. Jeremy was next and chose the easy line. Steve followed the right line as well.
    DSC08334 (1).jpg
Mike went to the left and had some trouble at first. I don't remember exactly where his tires were but he got pretty tippy and looked like he damn near rolled it to the right on his way up. He backed down with a bit of spotting and took a new line sticking to the crevice on his driver side, crawled up no problem.
    DSC08337.jpg
    DSC08339.jpg
    DSC08341.jpg
Lloyd attempted the left line as well but the weight combined with the snow was making it difficult so I believe he chose the right line.
    DSC08342.jpg

Not far up were some neat little ledges. Unfortunately being open/open with all terrains I was having some trouble, didnt want to hold everyone up too long on an easy obstacle so i took the go around. Pat, Jeremy, and Steve made it up easily.
    DSC08345.jpg
Mike and Lloyd made easy work of it as well.
    DSC08346.jpg
    DSC08348.jpg

We went on top of the newly dubbed "NJTOTW" for lunch. It was a BYOL kind of day today. Mike and Pat got some pictures from on top of the cliff.
    DSC08355.jpg
    DSC08363.jpg

After BS'ing for awhile Mike decided to take a little line down the backside of the cliff, Pat and Steve tried it as well. I haven't edited any of these but I tried rotating the ones on the hill a bit because I think I have a bad habit of turning the camera to the angle of the truck when Im shooting, which was evident when I looked through these.
    DSC08364.jpg
    DSC08366.jpg
    DSC08367.jpg
    DSC08369.jpg
also got the only picture of my truck here
    DSC08371.jpg

Went to another hill and I noticed a line going up to the left that I thought would be cool. Mike and Pat gave it a go, some spotting for mike got him up relatively painlessly. Also noticed Pat toying with the idea of going up another line, looked way to sketch from here.
    DSC08375.jpg
    DSC08376.jpg
    DSC08377.jpg
    DSC08378.jpg

We moved on to a hill that we've only come down in the past, it didnt seem like it'd be difficult but right when we got to the steep parts I could barely make it flooring it pretty good. Mike went up in front of me to check it out and possibly winch me up but we found that it'd be too much of a struggle even if jeremy and I (the only open/open guys) got past the first part. Pat, Mike, and Steve went up this trail and Lloyd, Jeremy, and I took another route in the back. We met up with them a bit later, talked a bit at the top and headed back down. 0 pictures of this deal as well...

Finally we decided to check out a small camping area that Lloyd, Jeremy, and I discovered on our last trip. Things kinda went off the rails here.
Everything was easy until we got to a big swampy area that was frozen over. In hindsight I should have definitely taken the bypass obviously. I was debating on it but figured the temperatures were low enough lately that it should be frozen enough to go over, we had gone over it before. I went through the entire swamp hearing cracks, but it was almost like the kind of cracks you'd hear on packable snow. It also appeared to be standing water so again I assumed it was safe to cross. I made it just fine but unfortunately we ran into disaster not far from land. Steve said he rode too close to the edge of the ice and dropped in. It took 2 trucks to get him out and even that was just barely enough.
    DSC08382.jpg
    DSC08383.jpg
    DSC08385.jpg
Once he was out we kinda BS'ed a bit more. Jeremy decided to cross by himself to where I was while everyone was standing at the beginning of the swamp. I think Steve was the first to look over and see Jeremy had broken through into some very deep water, needless to say we were all pretty shocked at this. Me and Fabio walked over while Steve took the bypass around to try to get him out. Luckily Jeremy had dropped in pretty close to solid ground.
    DSC08386.jpg
    DSC08388 (1).jpg
We attempted to get Jeremy's winch hook out from under the ice but it was way too thick. Steve broke out the chainsaw again and cut up the ice. We hooked the winch to a tree and it was all in Jeremys hands. The winch was really put to work and Jeremy was really getting on the gas and flinging water and ice everywhere. Gassing it probably wasn't helping much but he said water just kept coming up so the adrenaline was really pumping at that point.
    DSC08394.jpg
    DSC08396.jpg
    DSC08398.jpg
    DSC08404.jpg

Once he was finally out and we drained as much water as possible Jeremy was having some issues with his motor. For some reason it was revving extremely high when he started it, I believe Steve suggested they disconnect the battery to let the ecu reset so Mike and Lloyd started airing up while they waited. Luckily Jeremy was good to go and we all decided to air up and head home.
    DSC08407.jpg

Had a great time today, was awesome to meet everyone and hope to get out again soon. Still lots to explore.

Note to self: don't start writing trip reports at midnight.
