My condolences. And what a great gift you have given to that little guy! Enjoy using that machine, it was the right choice to keep it.

    Dang, sorry to hear :(

Nice machine though. I'm going to be buying a nice walking foot machine real soon, gotta upgrade with the tax refund! Hoping I can get everything I want in a machine for $800, and i'd rather get a used consew or juki or similar, worst cause I could get a sailrite.

I was looking to invest my tax refund into a heavier machine. I really want a machine that could punch through plastic for light weight pack frames. I just keep collecting sewing machines...

Yeah no kidding. After thinking more about it, I've wanted a walking foot for so long, but that's not all that great for thinner stuff. I think I'll still get the walking foot but I just second guessing it. At least the lighter weight industrial machines seem to be more reasonable in price. There's a juki 5550n on CL here right now for something like $650. Right now I am pondering getting a tacsew machine, basically a cheaper copy of a consew 206.

My next one will most likely be a Juki 8700. My local supplier actually has quite a few of them in stock now along with some Consew and Brother industrials too. He sells them from about 550 to 650. He has them completely gone through and serviced when he gets them.

Yeah i could definitely see for a standard industrial machine getting a juki, the brand new ones online are like $700. Seems like a steal compared to walking feet.

Interesting thread, enjoyed looking through and seeing peoples projects. I own a canvas and upholstery shop, focusing on large boat canvas here in Seattle. If anyone has any questions I'm happy to offer assistance. And for the guys talking about table size...my sewing/work table is 8'x40'...

Welcome! It's cool to see more pros in here. What do you think about walking foot machines? What do you run?

I only use walking foot machines. But everything I do is heavy fabric. Needle feed are fine for very lightweight fabric, but I have no use for one. I'd rather have a serger than a needle feed. I currently have a Pfaff 1245, thinking about adding a Juki heavy machine at some point

Alright I got one in my sights! Gonna pick up a singer 111w156 tomorrow. Straight stitch with reverse, alternating walking feet (compound I think is what it's called), needle feed, well taken care of, servo motor, knee lift presser foot, nice looking table and work light. I'll probably end up making a larger table for it too as we've been talking about. I've got a whole room to fill up specifically for sewing! Pics tomorrow.

Id like to get a machine that can do a heavy canvas and leather. I dont need anything fancy just something that wont break when I get rough with it. Lol
Im not an experienced seamstress but itd be nice to toy with some nice leathers.
Any ideas on a machine and features I would need for say leather cushions or the like would be appreciated.

I've watched this guy sew a good bit of leather stuff and he has a video about picking one.

So another question. Say I pull some stitches to get a pattern for some cushions.
Would I need to add or take away any length or size if im going from a regular fabric to a leather?
I would also assume it depends on the type of stitch.
Is there a rule of thumb? Or are there mathematics involved?

I got it! It works amazingly. The guy took really good care of this machine. I got through 16 layers of 1000D with this bad boy (I'm sure it could do more). Based on the serial number (the 111g) its made in Germany!
