Yah miles ahead in price, I'll take my 1gen with cable driven throttle body! Those 3gen look nice though. Dont compare my 1gen to a ford ranger thats like cussing at youre Grandmother, do you not know the diff between I beams and Independent front suspension?

Dude, no, people nhappy with the performance of something want to discuss it in the hopes of remedying the situation without Tacoma cheerleaders telling us how wrong we are. Just move on, nobody pays attention to your cheerleading for the Tacoma...YOU love it, we get it. Some of us don't love the powertrain and we want to discuss why and you add absolutely zero to the conversation other than looking like a aging fanboi... I'm done with you, go ahead and get the last word in. I promise I'll read it, then hit the ignore button. I know that will make one of us happy.

The comment was on engine performance and not suspension. And yes I will compare a Tacoma to a ranger because they are direct competition. Also adjust the current prices for inflation and you would be pretty close to what these trucks where 15 years ago.

I'm trying to figure out if I have a unicorn....

    I turn my truck on.

    I push the ECT button.

I move the gear shift level to S5.

Truck doesn't hunt, doesn't lag and it can get the hell out of it's own way.

What percentage of owners are keeping the truck until 300,000 miles? I'll take anything else with more power, more responsiveness and better torque for less longevity. I've never owned a vehicle with mileage that high and I don't know of anyone either.
So many people keep making excuses for the crappy truck engine that Toyota made all in the name MPG it whatever.
    Meh.

Funny but my 3rd gen drives fine, my fathers 3rd gen drives fine, and guess what my brothers 3rd gen drives fine- CRAZY. I have driven 400hp trucks before, guess what this is not a HP monster and I don't expect that. Its a midsize pick up with a an adequate motor for its size. Stop crying about its broken its not, proof in how many Tacomas sell.

GREAT video! Lots of explanation and a little more understanding of how and some why the 3.5 performance is as it is. Thanks for sharing the flick.

Right on BlueFalconActual, I to had an '09 RCSB TRD Sport with a 5.7....very quick truck. Miss the power and speed but the Tacoma is like you said, a toss-up on which one I like better. Two completely different trucks.

There's only one way to be sure... we must have a demolition derby with all three generations. The winner is the winner.

I LOVED the 2.7 5sp combo in my '98 4x4 AC. I never towed or hauled much weight so it
was plenty powerful for me and so simply flat in it's power delivery. It was a great combo.

Your forgetting why the Tacoma has the highest resale value [out of every vehicle in u.s.a.] and reliability among all competition.

It's because they are conservative with their powertrains and use what works and is suffice for their application.

So quit crying about how the engine is lacking. Go sell your Toyota and buy a Ford or Chevy and be biting the bullet when you go to sell.

You never hear anyone complain about how the resale sucks on these trucks.

I loved my 2.7L 5MT, for a good reason. It was reliable, and posted great MPGs.

My only gripe is at 150k, the catylatic converter went out, and there was no aftermarket solution here in Comi-Fornia, except the OEM, and that was $1500. Ended up selling it, and bought my new 17' 6MT 4x4.

I heard there is an issue with those 2.7L, running to rich, which cause the cat, to prematurely go out. Fucking bullshit. Thats my only gripe about the 2.7L. Everything else is legit. Fix that crap Toyota. Damn
