The SKINNY on skinny tires

I know some who have had that size or the equivelent 255/80/17 on their trucks with no rubbing issues even when wheeling. I had mine switched over from my first truck and they rubbed. I would say it's a crap shoot but each brand of these tires will be a little different also

 

I know they fit on 3rd Gens. Can’t say for certain about 2nd Gens.

I think they fit if you remove the little mudflap in front of the front tire.

 

Be sure to compare the rim width the tire wants.

 

Thanks... Ive only had them on for a couple weeks now and havent had her off road yet, but the street handling is much smoother than what i was expecting with E load tires... the Reg Cabs have a nice short wheel base..

Speaking of Tall and Skinny's as replacement for the Dunflop fail's on the 5-lugs - Pro-Comp AT/S 235/85R16's on 16x7" aftermarket rims.

I went with Cooper ST Maxx 255/85r16 for a few reasons:
-I really liked the tread (both look and claimed functionality), reviews said they were super durable
-I'm running stock wheels no crazy offset/backspacing so wanted the tallest tire I could fit without having to do a lot of trimming/pounding
-took into consideration the fact that my truck is a daily driver, I also drive to trails, and have visions of long trips where mileage was a concern
-All my friends run wider tires so figured I'd be the black sheep and give them a try and see how they compare (I'm pretty much the only Taco amongst a gaggle of 4runners too)

After having them for 2 years now:
tread life is awesome, as is the drivability of them on the roads. Not inclusive of all skinnies, but these particular tires are E rated triple sidewall....so maybe a little stiffer when off-roading. I've aired down to 8 psi on occasion to get the deformity needed and comfort for some trails. But haven't blown a bead, or feared blowing one yet.
They've handled everything I've thrown at them so far and I'm happy with them. I feel like they do a great job for my needs.

That being said, I may go wide on my next set of tires, because why not, and get some comparison. It's hard to say and it's hardly scientific but there have been occasions where it seems friends do better on a given line then I do...granted there are LOTS of variables, 4runner to Taco first and foremost...wheel base, weight, maybe I'm an inch off their line...etc. But there have been lines/obstacles that I've avoided, because after watching them and looking at my track width in comparison it just seemed too sketchy. Granted, I'm on stock wheels. I plan on getting some new wheels soon to give a little wider stance.

We'll see...I look at it like a lifetime thing...1 set of tires isn't going to kill me, and who knows, maybe after I will truly appreciate what I have now, because, hey...they are awesome!

I was very unsure about an 18 wheel and hesitant to buy but to get the size and tire I wanted there was no other choice. I think the AT3 is slightly more aggressive than the ST Maxx. I ended up loving the ride and feel. I also took off my sway bar and the logging roads ride SOOO much softer with this set up.

I eventually ended up going to ST Maxx in 265/75/16. Really tempted to go to 255/85 but will probably get some more miles on these first, only done about 6k so far! Love these tires though.

Anyone have 255/85 on a 0 offset wheel and can post pics? If I make the switch I’m not sure I’ll wanna stay with my Methods and probably go to SCS if I can purchase a set quick enough! The look with negative offset and skinnies is just bad ass IMO!

man you guys got me wanting skinnies but I want to go back to 15" wheels with 33's

 

I love them have 30,000 on them so not as good as they were. I got them when I live in Colorado and used them all over the state and up in to WY then moved to VT and have used them here and in Canada. I got stuck in super deep snow trying to open a pass for the season but made it way farther then the jeep on 35s Road noise isn't horrible but who knows the roof rack blocks everything out and I didn't really see a change in mpg. They are difficult to find though

 

34x10.50s here an love the dimensions so far. Great thread and very helpful for future tire purchases, hopefully some true 34-35 tall skinnies hit the market in the future!

 

What a cool combo with the Magnetic Gray and the gold Ray 10. I wish the KO2 came in a 255/85/16. I’m stuck with limited options cause I went with a 16” wheel.
