If you go on their product page for the grill there’s a link to a fiberglass fix/reinforcement kit (bold red area towards the bottom). Not sure about anything being changed to prevent it on new orders or fix it on surrounds that have already cracked. Hope this helps you guys that have it. I’d definitely either reinforce or go to stock during winter if I had it and was in a colder climate

There was a thread where this happened to multiple people.

They had to buy a new surround on their own dime

Ahh ok thanks for the link. Just read it and I’ll have to go take a look for that weak spot and see what I can do.

100% swap grills and get Toyota to warranty that. The dealer ship gets paid to fix bamfs issue and you get a new piece. Think about how much over head Toyota makes on that piece of plastic. it's probably 40cents and made in a factory in china.

I would take take the thing back to Toyota in a heartbeat if I found out people were having cracked grills with stock inserts.
Now it's obvious that it's the BAMF design + bitter cold temps that cause the failures. I'm disheartened because no way I could attempt to fix it and it appears no one is going to help financially. Also No one is suggesting insurance fraud for a 3-400$ part... Sucks too that the grill looks so awesome and was my favorite of the options out there.

Yeah, that is unfortunate since the metal grill looks great.

The cracked plastic in the photo is interesting looking/ symmetrical with the angle of the headlights, and to me doesn't look terrible.

Just a thought, perhaps cut the other (drivers) side of the plastic in a similar angle and call it a day. No more worries about the expansion/ contraction between metal and plastic- a "design feature".

    Just my $.02

Happened to be when I got hit, eBay has the entire surround and insert for 300-400. The surround at the dealer is 589 alone

That's a solid idea but knowing myself I would screw it up somehow. Certainly not going to make any changes until it warms up around here.

I took my grill off the derp the chrome bezel, so I know it is relatively easy. Would be willing to help, since I have some experience with a saw, and I am sure there are other capable members of TW who could also help.

If you do plan in doing it yourself, I would buy a roll of 1" painters masking tape and a Japanese hand saw. Lowe's sells them for $20, and the fine tooth blade will make a nice smooth cut.

The biggest challenge would be matching the angle of the break from the other side.

A few additions to make me feel cool.
I would hate to see your solution for repairing a dent. LOL.

Contact Jerry and see what he is willing to do OP. Buy and reinforce a new surround and call it a day. It's the cost of doing mods.

Thinking about selling the insert, using those funds for the new surround and maybe get a PRO grille or derp the ol chrome one. Not sure how much I would get for the grille tho and would have to sell it to a person in a warm place haha.

I have a surround that I was planning to offload soon, but it's black, so you'd have to repaint it. Might not be worth your time.
