Passing the information along that was shared with me and very helpful. Dixie 4x4 has mapped that entire area and it's pretty big. They are super helpful so if you have specific questions swing through there and they'll point you in the right direction. If you download Avenza maps you can load their map file into that program and it will give you GPS location when wheeling. If you're not familiar with trail ratings or are novice I'd suggest sticking to some of the easier trails to get some footing.

Thanks, I've got their map and the avenza map. Was more looking for first hand experience on some of the more difficult trails such as maze and double Sammy. Those are the two we are planning on running when we go out there. Looks like maze has some pretty gnarly obstacles and I was more curious if there were bypasses on some of them if we aren't able to make it up or don't want to attemp them. My buddy that's going with me found some pretty good videos showing options and bypasses last night so I think we are good to go, but thanks for the help.

I haven't done an extensive amount of trails out there but everyone I have done has had some good bypasses past the gnarly stuff but couldn't help on the specific trails mentioned. Maybe give Dixie 4x4 a shout.

Thanks. I'll reach out to them if I can't find the info I need. The goal is no bypasses, but there is definitely a lot of buggy territory out there.

    Happy wheeling everyone

Very true. I'm not crazy rock crawler so I'm glad a swung through Dixie beforehand. Even the trails that we went on that would be a 4-5 we got to some features where both I copilot were thinking "this trail is a freaking 4?!" For the most part pretty easy going and there were bypasses too but we never took one. Even at the extent of having to remove a side mirror to make it through two rock walls. Lots of fun to be had out there though even for a heavy IFS truck like mine.

Well we are going for the 7 and 8 rated trails so wish us luck. Done some fun stuff in Moab and difficult trails out here, but I'm on a whole new suspension since then and have only done one crawling trip that left me with a broken front axle. And I'm always trying to take harder lines than my friend in his jeep. Ifs for the win!!!

Good luck and let me know for real. The trails that are rated up to 8 I've only seen video of Jeeps and buggies hit them. Would love to see some IFS action and want to try more next time out.

It also became very apparent to me when leaving that area that there was not a consistent trail rating system from location to location. Leaving there and having done 4-5's and we realized they were much harder than the 6-7's we do locally.

Well we are going the last weekend of the month so tag me and remind me to post in here if I don't by the first week in February. Time permitting we want to run Maze, Double Sammy, and maybe one more of the easier ones or just spend some time messing around in the dunes. But with a free house to stay in that's 10min away, I'm sure we will make a few trips out there this year

I don’t even know if there’s hunts going on right now.

I know of some non-TW users that have had tags in that area in the past... I hunted the Manti's this last season though. I don't know of any big game hunts still going on other than limited-entry late season bull elk. I know that ends last week in Jan - First week in Feb.

Dang I may have to look at putting in up there this year! Manti's were pretty baron compared to how they traditionally are.

Just a friendly reminder that Honda Civics have no place in the Cottonwood Canyons during storms like this. I don't care if you have VTEC.

Had to dig out a ricer (on semi-slicks no less) yesterday that was beyond stuck. Slid off the inside shoulder of LCC into the ditch. Took 30 mins on digging and traction boarding just to get to a point where we could pull him out.

I will give Honda credit that they build in decent recovery points to the rear of their cars. Had it been a Kia, etc we would still be there.

    Good on ya for helping.

IMO, Civics with experienced drivers on SNOW tires can have at it up the canyons. The other kind can stay home...
