Hey everyone, I was just curious as to what your opinions are as to the largest engine you can make fit in a 1st gen Tacoma?

I also specifically want to ask if anyone believes you could make a Ford 7.3 powerstroke fit if you modify the hood so it's kinda like a hot rod? I know it's a bit of a ridiculous question but I wanna try to make it happen lol

You'd be surprised what you can make fit when a little leverage is applied

Bore and stroke don't matter as much as external dimensions/block-head shape/length, and how much you are willing to hack up the firewall, etc.

Take some key underhood measurements and then start researching engine dimensions.

Some 7 year old info. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/engine-swap.172437/

If I had unlimited funds I would commission a sleeper Tacoma. Keep the look totally stock but put something very scary under the hood.

My 4bt Cummins is tight length wise and I had to put a 1 inch body lift on it to use the stock hood. Anything bigger length wise you’ll have to either stretch the front or put the radiator and everything in your bed. It’s even tight side to side with the turbo/ piping on the passenger side and really tight on drivers side with the brake booster, master cylinder and fuse panel.. you can make a 7.3 fit but you’ll have to completely reconstruct the front of the truck including the firewall.2AB0E286-885B-48DB-9FBC-E59DB7A8BBDD.jpg

7.3 is worthless now-a-days, its super heavy as well, you'd be better off putting a tacoma body on an F250 and calling it a day, better axles and towing.
