When I take off from a dead start or climbing a steep hill at low speeds I’m getting a shudder or vibration. The shudder only started around 4 months ago.

    2005 4x4 V6 extended cab.
Front 2.5” lift, rear 1.5” lift.
Received the replacement driveshafts 2years ago.
New leaf springs 1 year ago.

This one may have been beaten to death but still new to Tacoma World.

Welcome to T W. This is an on going issue. I did a 1in lift in rear and got that annoying take off shutter right at 5mph. Smooth as glass anyother time. Beating my head and red every thread on this subject. I wish I could give you a definite answer. For now do to time not permitting I took the lift out but I will being putting it back in and messing with it when my schedule permits. Good luck bud and post any findings.

Edit : here's the kicker. After removing the lift the shutter is still there ONLY EVER SO SLIGHT.

    Man, what a bummer.

Update on my end is that I had Mobil 1 Synthetic in the rear differential, drained it and switched back to Lucas non synthetic 80w-90. This took care of about 1/2 the shudder.

Going to Toyota next weekend to have the transmission oil drained and refilled. They will not be flushing the system or replacing the filter/screen, highly against either of those with trucks at 155,000 miles.

I’ll keep updating as I get new info.

Welcome to TW. You both need to do the needle bearing mod. No removing of said lift or tranny flush is going to fix it. Well-documented issue and solution posted on TW. Just use the search box in the top right to learn all about it.

I’ve already had that issue and made the repairs about 1 1/2 years ago. Replaced it with the bushing from ECGS. That noise went away, this is a shudder from somewhere transmission to rear diff. Thanks though.

Did you try installing a carrier bearing drop kit or rear axle shims?

I would do the mod if I wasn't a prerunner. I did do a 1/4in carrier bearing drop with very little change. I have surched and red alot of the threads on this issue and when I get some time will try messing with it some more.

I’m having the exact same problem right now, did you happen to know what the issue was? I’m a do the ECGS upgrade and carrier bearing drop to start with to see if that helps it

My 15 did it when the truck was stock. Purchased it with 55k on it. Now at 85k and it still does it. Feels like the ass of the truck jiggles a bit right when I take off. Doesn't do it all the time either. The ECGS bushing causes a different issue. I lifted the rear with a 1 inch lift block and still have the same shudder. My local driveline shop that does a ton of rear leaf spring truck work, suggested shimming the pinion. He said he would try 2-3 degree shim.

I added the carrier bearing drop and the axle shims. Seems fine now, only occasionally happens when I’m climbing a steep asphalt hill from a dead stop. I’ve got a 3” front lift and a 2” add a leaf.
