new to this group, first time owning a tacoma, picked up a 2017 rs 2wd tacoma, yes it's the one with the 2.7l,
I mostly be driving on the road 80 to 90 % of the time, the other ,, now do any one happen to know if it even off road worthy, I know I can't go rock climbing ,or going up steep hill, I guess just knowing my limits.

Depends, first question, have you gone offroading before? what do you consider offroad? dirt/trail/gravel roads?

good question, last time I went off roading was about 25 years ago, and mostly was trails, it was more than just camping trips, but with this truck it may not make it threw those trails

I've done logging trails with a camry before, it's a matter of knowing when to stop and when to throttle.

Never do real "wheeling" alone, but logging roads/camp trails are ok because others always help.

If you are not hauling anything, you should be fine on trails if its dry. I go thru gravel/trail roads time to time and forget to put it on 4hi and still good to go. I also had a silverado that was 2wd that was fine on trails. Main thing to help your vehicle are the tires. Reason why I normally put mine on 4hi is to lube up the diffs, there are horrible craters/runoffs in some of the trail I go to, and I'm currently in Louisiana: trails are going to be wet in some areas.

Bought it an auction when I was Deputy. Didn't need it, was a nice car, plenty of room, big ass trunk, smooth ride. Stumped the game warden couple of times. Both said that was the first Caddy they saw as a hunting vehicle. It was fun.

My first 3rd gen tacoma was 4cyl and 2wd... I went off-road with it a bunch. You just have to use common sense.

A shovel, axe, and chains come in handy. Air compressor as well so you can drop pressure. Floor mats can also help get you out when you get stuck.

I no longer have pictures of my 4cyl SR offroading... New phone now... But i have taken it to this same place without getting stuck... But also have gotten it stuck too... Just have to be ready for when you do get stuck lol

I grew up in the woods... Hell my first car was a Toyota Corolla and i went off-road with it... Got stuck a bunch too... But had fun none the less LOL

JaCado is right, and you can have lots of fun off-road with your truck, but even though the trail may be smooth and your truck can do it easily enough, if you are unfamiliar with the place, DON’T do steep downhill off-road stuff with a 2wd if the only way back is uphill! At least be sure you have the traction to go back up. That was my 1st lesson in off-roading before I owned my first 4x4...:anonymous:
