Hi all, I met a member with a RTT while camping on Four Peaks in Arizona over NYE. He talked you bums up a lot, so I had to come check it all out. This is my first truck and it's been a beast. From the week I got this truck, I have used it the right way. It has AZ racing stripes and mud in places most trucks don't ever see it. I typically go solo, so I haven't gotten into as fun of stuff as I want, but I have been in some sketchy spots and always gotten out. I trust it to take me across the country at a moments notice. Rock solid but has little issues. All things I'm sure I can figure out if I poke around here enough.

Truck is a 2006 4dr short bed 4x4. I believe it's an off-road package but I do not know for sure. The guy I got it from didn't remember and all the markings had long since been removed. He added spacers to the front to make it sit like a sport. Other than that, the head unit, and the tires, it's completely stock.

Build ideas include full suspension from bearings and bushings to shocks and possibly a small lift(not sold on it yet), winch, bed rack, RTT, lighting, on-board air, and eventually a motor rebuild(not sure if it's necessary, but I would sleep better with less than 185k on the motor). 21013802_10213882302356410_3688335895363520258_o.jpg 11148383_10206677916451265_3849139825082792392_o.jpg 21616_10208277848168558_4497784975118310588_n.jpg

    Howdy! And welcome.

That looks like a TRD sport given the hood scoop, the sure fire way to tell if it's a TarD off-road is wether or not you have the E-Locker.

No E-locker, so I'm guessing you're right. Is that something that I can add? I've gotten one of the rear wheels off the ground in several spots and would have killed for a rear locker.

It can be added, but it's roughly the same cost as buying and installing an ARB air locker unless you come across a killer deal on an E-Locker rear axle. Also I believe the sports have an 8.4" rear diff whereas the OR's use the smaller 8" diff that pretty much all Toyota trucks have had in the past.

It's debated which is better frequently but generally believed the 8.4 with ARB is a stronger combo, then again there's a guy here who's 2U swapped and flogs his truck and hasn't broken anything yet.

    Heard that on here somewhere:lalala:

Sports also have the LSD (limited slip differential). Probably explains the extra .4".

Barbie box, haha my son will have a good laugh at me for that one. I'm with you on the spacer advice. I've been debating if I will keep it and do a ton of mods, or get a newer model and not mod it for a while. Leaning towards no payment and doing what I want with what I have.

I like the sound of that. Guess I have a good base to start from.

Ya! Keep it! No payment plus 2nd gens are WAY better than 3rds. The interior of the 3rd is certainly more modern, maybe slightly more ergonomic, but better is a matter of opinion.

I’ve heard of virtual lockers. Never heard of a virtual LSD.:notsure:

Yes with a virtual locker. But LSD engages using centrifugal force. If electrical engagement is used it becomes a virtual locker.
