13 Investigates: Lawsuit says Toyota vehicles attract rodents, causing costly repairs
“[Rodent damage] is going to happen and, more often than not, that’s not the manufacturer’s fault. It’s not their problem. It’s just a known issue that could happen to a car, just like a tree falling on a car or a car being parked someplace and a flood comes along and carries it away,” he said. “But because this problem is known to exist – it’s known people will have rodents chew away at their wires -- you don’t make the wires out of something that’s edible, that then becomes, a trap for these rats.”

Lots of manufactures are using soy based stuff, I think it has to due with environmental laws.

This right here is what you call a contradiction.

You switch to soy based wiring because of environmental lawsuits... but by switching to soy based you make the wiring more susceptible to those annoying rodents, which noe makes you more prone to lawsuits for creating a less reliable vehicle.

Damn if you do damn if you don't.

don't forget the litter box, or you will have shit everywhere and the chewed wires won't be as big a deal. Wait, there is you solution, just dump cat shit all over your truck and your won't care about the chewed wires.

    Glad I could help.

If you have an enclosure... garage/storage unit etc... get a bunch of coarse steel wool and pack it in every void you can find. Put poison everywhere and get mousetraps. It won't eliminate the problem, but it will greatly help. I used poison cubes initially, and after one week I opened the door on my storage unit to find several dead mice. They leave a blood trail from their mouths when they are poisoned. I found several blood trails on the floor of my storage unit, but none under my engine hood or on my cabin air filter. I guess it is working, no issues yet.

    More than I can afford
A week and $3,800 later yes, my truck is back.
Fortunately insurance is picking up the tab for most of it.

Contractor will have an estimate ready for me next week on the shop. Looking forward to everything being parked inside.
