I havent had any issues running end grain cutting boards through my Dewalt 735. The key is to take REALLY shallow cuts on the finishing settings (more cuts per inch).

I think he was asking if a router set up like people use to finish the surface of boards too wide for a planer (live edge etc) would blow out end grain

The router setup will be a much better method with little to no tearout except maybe at the edges.

Eh not really. Just get a straight edge with a table saw or circular saw. The hand planers aren’t really good. Id get a cheap CL thickness planer before a hand planer.

Jet makes some crappy fences for their table saws, I messed around with mine for a few hours yesterday and its still wonky...I know I need to get a new fence piece as its warped, Im pretty sure its been this way the whole time Ive owned it because I havent dropped it. But the previous owner just slapped everything together and stored it for a number of years. I may have to get an expensive one and get that set up at some point but not right now.

    yeah Thats what Im thinking.

There shouldn’t be any flex but it’s just a guide not load bearing.

yeah, see thats the problem with the original fence on my Jet saw. a crappy design, when you clamp it down on the specific measurement the point furthest from the lock down point moves ever so slightly laterally maybe a 1/16th of an inch AND I just recently found that the whole fence piece is warped...I tried a rubber mallet on it but its obviously not going to get straight. I took apart the fence piece and the pivot pin is straight but the lock down is cheaply made and has a lot of play in it. So right now Im just going to live with it but next month Im getting a new fence system.

Ive been clamping the end of the fence down, I could get a long piece that covers the whole fence. I see what you are saying.

I didnt for the longest time, I found a good used one for real cheap. I couldnt pass up the deal. Check your local craigslist, Ive found numerous deals where the tools were practically new but the owner didnt know how to use them or needed money.

I got my table saw for free from a friends basement of their "new" house. The power switch is on the left side low on the base so to turn it off you're putting your face or arm near the saw blade to turn it off. REALLY BAD DESIGN. I am expecting today or tomorrow my replacement switch.

PS ignore the stacks of scrap wood, these were taken when I was "cleaning up". ;)

Hey guys, just found the thread. I'm a younger (24) woodworker. Just got a house with my own garage and I'm finally looking to start a real shop. Stupid part is my wife still wants to fit her car in the garage. But I think I might be able to work it out. I currently have a bandsaw (10in) that I'll probably upgrade soon, miter saw (upgrade soon) a thickness planer, drill press, table saw, and sanding gear.

Currently, I think the next step is a jointer which I might be getting a 6" grizzly off CL for $400 thats like new.

I've been collecting tools since I was around 25. I would buy one big tool each year. Looks like you are ahead of where I was. I would love to have a joined, just don't have the room right now.
