PTR13-35150 - Bilstein TRD PRO kit - Upgrade??

How is this not adjustable? I can see the adjustment rings cut into the body of the shock under the black retainer.

What is the answer here?

Dang their website photos don't match the install photos from Toyota. What gives, there's only 2 cuts here!



Is this some kind of joke by Toyota?

 

They don't appear to be adjustable. Most OEM equipment is not. Looks like these account for Tacoma Lean.

 

Why is Toyota giving dealers the photos of 5 rings on the body to post in the listing on their websites?

Every listing has this same photo with 5 ring locations

 

Why are some criagslist ads advertising a TRDOR with a picture of a SR5? Because the people who send these photos around are people being paid to do a job, and the job of sending photos to dealers is not skilled labor and probably not an ISO 9001 process.

Why would an OEM part be adjustable, it just adds that many more variables for the manufacturer to test and guarantee. If you sell 20,000 trucks each with 5 different suspension adjustments, that's 100,000 things that can potentially go wrong that you're on the hook for fixing...less I forget who we are talking about "normal operating charactaristic" 'r us.

Re-read: I don't mean to come off as a hoity-toity. Let's wait and see if I get my suspension and I will confirm for the group.

So how do like the new feel? How is it different from stock, off road and on road?

 

Just a few thoughts. If you aren't ever planning to move to steel bumpers, winch, etc, those TRD-Pro's are likely a better bet. If you are planning on big heavy bumpers, etc, Bilstein 6112 is probably intended for a broader audience.

 

Part of the description also says an additional 1.75" of travel ... would this be comparable to the generic 6112? This is a good price, having a hard time passing these up.

 

lol, accidently made that a question.. thanks for the heads up on the 6112/5160 prices, im going to go that route instead of the TRD-Pro.

 

I don't see how that's possible when the second gen pro was only 1 inch taller than a base model when the third gen base model is 1 inch taller than the second gen base models. That would put these shocks level with the third gen base model...

unless the second gen pro was 1.75 inches taller in the front ONLY than the base models? I never recognized any bro lean on the second gen pros from the factory

 

I've seen bro lean on the 2G. They were definitely taller than the OR models in stock form.




The question is how much lift this will set you. If it gets you anywhere in the ~ 1" range this setup is very appealing at the price point for me.

 

bro lean is when the rear end is lower than the front. Tow lean is when the rear is higher than the front, the way it should be for payload and towing

I'm opting out of this set because you'll need to run a spacer or a 169-188 dollar retainer to lift it where you want it. After buying those, it's only about 90 dollars more for a real set of 6112 and 5160

 

Right. The bro lean on the Pro is more noticeable in person. There is one near me that had about the same wheel gap I had with my lift up front but without the lift in the rear. It definitely sits nose high.

Seeing as the 3G still sits higher in the back (at least aesthetically) and is supposedly 1" higher in the front already I'd venture to guess you'd get pretty close to level.

I couldn't fathom putting a spacer on the truck with that suspension. I agree if you go that route you are better with the 6112 / 5160 but if you're not going for bigger lift, I still think this kit isn't a half bad deal at the price point.
