Ah makes sense that it wouldn't wear them down much more than with using the clutch, especially if you do it smoothly and at that precise speed. I've just had people tell me it's really bad for the transmission and others that have done it everyday for years with no issues. Guess it depends on the skill of the driver. Of course doesn't matter much for me since I'm an auto haha.

Are you talkin double clutching to match trans and motor rpms, or syncronized/mesh gear shifting. 2 opposite worlds..

I leaned to syncro "matched rpms poping 2nd to 3rd ect on a tractor. I learned double clutching with a small or turbo motor so you have no lag.

Correct. The pinion in a 5.29 is a lot smaller than 4.88s, 4.56s etc. 4.10 is the biggest and strongest though.

How are those mounted to the bed? Just bolts through the frame rails?

I took my old shift boot apart and sewed a new one! Found the fabric at Joann’s.

Yes the pinion is small. But the rig is huge and the bite of the pinion and ring is better. Zuk did some tests to see if this was true and his findings were that 5.29s are just as strong if not actually stronger then 4.88s.

I wouldn't let that scare you. But shouldn't run anything but 35s minimum with 5.29s really. A heavy rig with 33s and an auto might benefit from them but might be a bit high Rpms.

Did you use the original rectangle wire frame to pop the new shift boot fabric back into the plastic housing ? I bought a shitty new shift boot on ebay but the wire frame was too thick and it wouldn't pop into the plastic housing. Wondering how you got that to work.

My buddy and I wrote a ton of notes for next time. Planning on another trip next year, probably later to avoid the cold.

    @BartMaster1234

I also fabbed siderails to reinforce the connection where they bolt to bedrails. The siderails are also go i ng to serve as the bases for my rooftop tent rack. I went ahead and got them done to go under the truck boxes now because I didn't want to have to adjust the boxes for level if I added them under the boxes later.

    Question for the knowledge base:

How to determine WHICH bearing is out or going out on Drivers front on 03 4x4?
Spindle bearing - jack up front, grab 12 and 6 and pivot up/down = spindle bearing trashed.
Driver side diff bearing (aka EGCS bearing) - ???

    Why am I asking?
    Changed tires - same sound.
Snow run - repetitive squeaking from drivers side front.
Passenger side Spindle bearing replaced last year.
Rack, LBJ, Inner/outer tie rods, Camburgs, 5100's, OEM axle, LCA bushings = all replaced in 0-2yrs.

Front end almost completely replaced with the exception of:
    Driver side spindle bearing
    Front diff (ARB)
