Before the put it on the rack they jack the truck up and with a bar they pull the wheel up and down to see if any parts are wore out

I feel like any shop will give you a laundry list because the age/miles on your truck, and because that's business for them if you decide to let them do it.. You're better off diagnosing things yourself and gaging the timeline in which you want things done.

Mebbe, I don't know anything about shops since I don't use them. @diverdale has a place he likes. I'll be doing my own steering rack bushings at some point.

Lower ball joints are a known issue on 1st gen Tacoma,3rd gen 4Runners, easy to change, 4bolts, tie rod and stud into spindle
Uppers are a bit tougher but doable, I’d actually recommend Light Racing upper control arms with adjustable ball joints
Steering rack bushing kit can be had on Amazon for $20 Urethane bushings.
I’d also carefully inspect the hub bearings, high miles its time to replace, its a hateful job but doable with the right tools (press and fixture) they are not the same as 2nd gen Tacoma

I don't trust them I had to completely redo a gears they put in my buddies JK they screwed up the preload and the gear contact pattern. Any good shop can align your truck. I use firestone because they have that lifetime alignment so whenever it gets off from hitting the trails its back for a free readjust. Same goes with using discount tire for my tires so when I throw a weight re-balance for free.

Do what Blkvoodoo said to check the balljoints jack up under the control arm and then put a prybar or something under the tire and lift up if you see any movement from the ball joints they are bad. The tie rods just have to move the tire like you would for turning if there is any play with just a little bit of force then the tie rods are bad. You'll need to look at the tie rods to see which one has the play either the inner or outer. The rack bushings just have the truck on the ground and have some one steer from side to side if you notice the rack moving before the wheels turn the bushings are worn.

@Taco_life Garner Auto Specialists has done right by me for many years now. They just got a brand new fancy alignment rig. They don't do the lifetime thing like Firestone but they're a locally owned shop that stands behind their work.

I also agree with @Sandman614 and the others...do it in stages. I wouldn't trust 4Wheel Parts as they're in it for the MONEY...recommend anything they can to maximize profits. Don't blame them but with your knowledge combined with the others here you/we can do pretty much anything on a budget. Tim and I both have well equipped garages.
