    Hi,

I have recently found some pretty screaming deals on the 2nd Gen TRD PRO Suspension (~600) for brand new front coil overs, and rear remote resi's. My truck has about 80k on its' stock TRD OR suspension and I feel that it is pretty clapped out at this point. I do a decent amount of offroad driving, 20% offroad 70% highway and 10% City. I do not do anything too difficult with my truck in terms of offroad trails but I do enjoy pushing my trucks' limits, as an example I have done fin's and things in Moab and it was probably the hardest trail I have ever done and I will not likely go much more difficult in the near future.

I prefer more long, expedition style travel than short difficult rock crawling if you catch my drift. Thats not to say I do not appreciate some technical patches though. To sum up my idea of what type of trails I like to do I typically use my truck to gain access to recreation sites, I do not use my truck as a recreation site, if that makes sense haha.

I understand I will gain about an inch lift in the front, I have a steel ifs skid, and thats it. I do not feel I need much more than that. My rear is sagging a little bit, topper and bed system with drawers, so I am also considering doing a 3leaf progressive aal. I do not mind rake on my truck, I use my truck as a truck I do not want it to be level. Essentially I was wondering if this setup makes sense for me in the eyes of you Tacoma World users. out the door I can get the new suspension, and a 3leaf aal for about 900 with free shipping. I am on a budget (about to graduate school in may) and am not looking to spend a whole lot more.

Where are you finding the deals on the Pro suspension?

If you paired it with a new leaf pack instead of an AAL, it wouldn't be a bad buy at all. You'll want the new pack to handle the extra weight.

If you have armor and a cap I would go with an OME setup with Dakars in the rear. A TRD Pro suspension is a waste of money.

Its basically money for a 1’’ lift that will add zero additional function.

The Pro suspension isn’t beefy enough for armor and a fiberglass cap. Also AALs are for solely lift, under weight they sag. So it will not help with your current rear suspension issue.

See I understand my need to just buy a new leaf pack, Im just trying to be cheap. But to say the TRD Pro suspension is a waste is not neccessarily true, it is essentially a 6112/5160 setup that is TRD Branded and is specifically valved/tuned for our trucks. 6112 coilovers can be found for 650 all over the web and essentially I would be getting a 6112/5160 for 680 that has springs tuned to my truck. So I am buying non-adjustable 6112s for way cheaper, and I do not care to lift my truck that much as function over form is more important in my book.

I’d go w/ a new HD leaf pack and then whatever shocks make sense to you OP.

The Trd pro suspension will give you 1.75 of lift in front. If you add a progressive aal without the overload leaf, it’ll add 1.5” to the rear. Add a half inch if you leave the overload on.

The suspension is nice and very worth the money your getting it at. Dakar’s would be optimal but for what you do ....you’ll be ok with the progressive aal.

To each their own when it comes to opinions....this is just my .02

Would it be appropiate to add the dakars to this package or would that be a bad call?

If you get the Dakar leaf packs, you’ll be fine with those. They give 2-2.5” of lift....I don’t remember exactly. If you can’t afford them you’ll be ok adding a progressive aal to your existing leafs......you don’t need to add an aal to a set of Dakar’s if that’s what your asking.

Also, if you go the progressive aal route get wheelers or icon.

Yeah thats what I would just do. My current stockers are shot to shit with near negative arc so I have no interest in throwing a band aid on them but if an AAL would do more than that I would be more than inclined to go that direction, for cost saving reasons. Thanks for the help.

I would highly recommend against the progressive aal. It gives lift from the actual thickness of the pack, and doesn’t firm up the ride at all. If you add them to your existing, shitty leafs you’re only wasting your money because then the aal will be shot very quickly.

How do you like your Pro Suspension? Have you mounted it up yet?

Ok, I didn’t realize your stocks are shot.....yes you are definitly on the right track and going at it the way by not bandaiding it. At this point I’d most definitly do the Dakars.

I’d also do extended rear brake lines since your raising the rear a couple inches and you actually wheel your truck...

yeah I had kind of realized this I just really wanted my options to be towards the cheaper end hahaha. But of course I choose the nicer/more expensive stuff. Typical.

Was planning on that as well.

I run OME up front, 5100 in the rear and Dakar leafs with JBA UCAs. It’s a bastard child of suspension but works great

Just to make sure this is understood...

Dakars give 2.75” of lift in the rear total.

A TRD Pro suspension in the front will lift a STOCK truck with no front armor 1.75”.

You can remove a leaf from the Dakar pack but that may still mean the Dakars are going to lift the rear higher than the front.

OP said he felt with the armor the TRD front coils would only give him an inch in the front. So that means if he’s dead set on the Pro suspension the Dakar pack may not be a good choice.

Thats why I think if you want a solid rear suspension, don’t buy the Pro suspension. It is not built for armor and may be difficult to balance the front and rear height. Go with a front coilover designed for what you want to use it for.
