Everything that I have read along with knowing what you are installing I think you would be better if with the 886’s. I want a bumper at some point but have not decided fully on a winch, I mean would it ever get used, probably not.

 

That's exactly how I feel. I saw a great price on a Smittybilt winch yesterday on Amazon. Even better if I got an Amazon credit card. Didn't think much of it -- figured I could come back to it later. Looked at the price today and it had shot up $100 One of those things that you'll love when you need it, but honestly, I've never been in a situation where I would have liked to have had one. Maybe it's best to wait until there's actually a real need.

It’s funny I was looking at pelfrybilt website this morning and details of their bumpers. They do have the winch mounting which is standard and they also have a high clearance rear bumber but no spare tire carrier, again it’s a cool factor not a need. I figured at first the standard front bumper is would be ok with as I have the 888 springs installed, believe it was 120lbs for the version I was looking at. Would consider aluminum but that adds another 350 to the expense. If I add a winch later then I can install the 886’s to support the overall weight.

 

I still go back and think maybe the aluminum CBI bumper may have been better -- although it would have worked out being more expensive. I like saving weight. Better acceleration, better braking, better mpgs. I did the math on the cost mpg difference between steel and aluminum and it came out to 1/5 of a mpg. Doesn't seem terribly significant. It wasn't enough to dissuade me. But it does add up over time. Maybe I'll have to offset it elsewhere... sway bar delete... etc.

 

I use my winch more for working around my house and things other than off road recovery than I've actually used it off road. I have used my winch three times to recover others and twice to recover myself. I figure in a situation where I would need to be recovered, the winch will most likely cover the cost of professional recovery.

 

That's actually pretty well used I think. 5 recoveries would justify the cost to me.

Edit: well, I guess if I were stuck without help, then one recovery would justify it too

 

I think about this all the time. In my eyes the winch will pay for itself the first time I get myself out of a sticky situation with it. Professional/business off road recoveries are not cheap

 

There are so many winching techniques that you can get yourself out of almost any situation with the right gear. If you have 4 snatch blocks, you can pull yourself backward. When there is nothing around to recover from, like at the beach, you can dig a hole and use your spare tire as a recovery point. So many cool things you can do with your winch, it is a great investment.

Ive tried once before awhile ago but could never find their shop. Was by wurzbach hwy. Their kinda like painless stereo install equipment.

Im just glad every new soldier comes in with good military bearing and shows the proper customs and courtesies when they arrive. Then they spend 18 months on shift life with relaxed standards because it's "unprofessional" to smoke the dog shit out of them in an "office setting" when they dont go to parade rest for senior NCOs or attention for officers and it all goes to hell. Its all downhill from there. Im just glad most of them are 1 and done because the vast majority would be going to a FORCECOM unit after this and they would be destroyed on sight. Caught one the other day chilling with his hand his pockets while talking to the CSM. Set his ass straight.
