This. Just takes time behind the wheel. The concept is easy. Just gotta be thrown in the pool without floaties until you get it.

 

haha no kidding. Hell i learn the concept when i was 9 on an old VW rabbit. Guy from church taught me. Messed with it in the afternoon. Never did it again until i got my tacoma...still remember but man, being in traffic or just driving around was way different. Took about a month or two to get good at it.

So worth it.

 

I'd say practicing it around an empty parking lot was good. But holy hell getting thrown into traffic (stop and go traffic) helped a ton, until I got to hills The person behind me finally realized and just stayed back like 10 feet

 

My dad has always driven straight drives, former truck driver. Both my brothers and I have manual transmissions.

My last truck was a manual 1994 Nissan pick-up. It blew a head gasket at 283,000 miles. No transmission problems ever.

They absolutely suck in heavy city traffic though.

I did experience my first slammed traffic with a manual when picking up the reg cab. Was not that fun.

 

yea my first manual driving lesson was with my dad's f-350 on a country road in the winter with ice and snow drifts at the age of 13. taught me alot on throttle control and steering correction

Totally agree. Have an auto right now since my wife refuses to be thrown in. I learned on the hills of SF. Burned out a clutch real fast but I don’t have any trouble with traffic or hills now. I miss it. Gonna have to do a manual swap when we get another AWD suv for her.

 

I taught my girlfriend to drive stick in my first taco. Now she drives a 5 speed Yaris! She loves having a manual car.

Also her sisters cant drive it so they never try to borrow it

 

yeah im a bit worried my GF won't ever give me back my new truck once she gets the hang of it haha

 

How secure is it? I'd be worried that I'd catch my antenna on something and rip out the light bracket...

 

I drove a manual Forester for years. Tons of fun, especially off-roading. Really wish the first-gen double-cabs had come with manuals.

Better than drilling a hole and having it tear a hole in the roof.

That being said, my buddy drives a full sized and has 2 holes drilled, on for a long range gps and the other for his radio and he’s never had a problem.

It’s his hunting truck so it gues used and abused year round with low hanging branches and whatever.

 

Just replaced my 15 year old stock suspension for some Fox 2.0’s front and rears!

I have a lack of tools and space at my current place. I'm working on it though! My tool set has been growing steadily. I need to sell my high lift and get a different jack now though. The taco had bumpers and sliders to lift from. This doesn't, yet.
