If you've been running 5W30 the entire life of your truck, I wouldn't switch to 5W20 now. There's a reason those 'high mileage' oils are heavier. Just my $0.02 but I wouldn't go lighter or you could end up increasing wear (in an extreme case of course).

 

Well I haven't done my own pull changes yet. Toyota has been doing them because I'm lazy and don't have a garage lol. But now I have oil and filters so I might as well use it. I'm also only at 42K miles

 

The 4cyls use 5w20. Would imagine the dealers just stock the 5w20 to cut down on costs having multiple vescosities

You’re dealer most likely uses 5w20 best bet is to use that oil up then switch to a good 5w30 mobile 1 is okay for the cash but I typically run amsoil

 

Talking to the bro in law and sister in law about possibly going to the Outer Banks for a week at the begging of July, for a family vacation.

 

Mine hated 87 too. There was a TSB that supposedly solved the issue which also helped with the stupid torque converter lockup junk, but I could never get the dealer to do it for me. My 16 pings on 87 as well unless I'm down a gear or two from where I want to be. When I run 93 it seems to help and the power delivery smooths out a bunch as well.

Where are you getting 5w-20 from? The 2G V6 was 5w-30, everything else is 0w-20. I used to request they do M1 5w-30 in my '13 and now they use the 0w-20 in the 3G. Subaru runs 0w-20 now in everything, including the WRX, if I'm not mistaken which I'm fairly confident is the reason they're blowing up motors with oil consumption. I ran German Castrol Syntec 0w-30 in my STi with Blackstone analysis each change and never had an issue with anything in the oiling system.

I don't like the 10,000 mile intervals and have been doing mine every 5,000.

I love that place! It was my go-to vacation spot when I lived in Richmond, VA and was only a few hours away. I miss it.

 

Never been, so getting pretty excited. Bro in law lives in WV, so we'd meet up at the Outer Banks. Looks like it's the same drive time wise to there, as it is to WV when we go visit.

 

If my truck has been using 5-30 and I found out any shop dropped the oil weight, I'd be furious. If dealers are truly doing that, that's pretty screwed up.

 

I used to head south to the KOA that was on the banks. At that point, just walk over the dune and you have miles of beach in either direction. I'm sure you'll have fun!
