Pics of lifted taco’s on stock tires please

I know, another lift post, but I haven't seen much on lifts with stock tires.

My wife has graciously given me around $1,800 for lift, tires, wheels and alignment (and other small things that come up) for my ’17 double cab off road long bed. Now I know I cannot get all of that in that price point so my original plan was to lift it, purchase new 16’s and keep the oem tires until the wear out, then upgrade.

I have been reading, reading some more and some more and I am talking to Marie at Headstrong, but my concern is what will the truck look like lifted on stock tires for a couple years until I wear out the oem tires and that’s why I am requesting pictures.

Lift wise I’m torn between:

5100’s with 888 coils and HS 3 leaf aal
or
Old man emu kit with HS 3 leaf aal

Wheel wise I’m between:

Level 8 MK6 in 16x8 +0
or
SCS Ray 10’s 16x8 -12


So can anyone share pics of what lifts look like on oem tires?

Bilstein 6112/5160 set on 4/5 with Dakar Medium Leafs. Worked well and didn't look bad. I just upgraded wheel/tires after 25K miles.

 

Would you consider going the other way? Ie upgrade tires first and then suspension?

I don't think a modest lift and stock tires looks bad, just curious.

Also just a friendly heads up, if you want Ray 10's you may be waiting a while.

Yes I have, but honestly I feel if I don't lift it now my wife won't be as kind later. Technically the money I'm using is from side work, but instead of putting it into house I get to put it into my truck so part of me wants to do it now. Part of me wants to just do 17's with new tires and no lift, but then part of me wants the lift for the look

As for the Ray 10's, I'm aware that I'll be waiting since they are always sold out lol.

Both lifts are solid options, and similarly priced.

I’d echo others suggestion to dump the stock tires and keep the OEM wheels if it’s a one or the other option to compliment the lift. You’ll be able to sell the stockers on Craigslist. And on that note, you could always pony up some extra cash for new tires and wheels and then sell your stock tires/wheels here or on Craigslist

 

Very good point. I am pricing out tires now. I know KO2's are the hot thing right now, but they are not in-expensive either lol

You buy that topper yet? How do the Dakar’s ride with an empty bed?

 

@backcountryj - would it be better to go with a 285/75/16 if lifted?

 

Thats subjective.

To some, 285s are the only thing that look good when lifted. Others find 265s just right. Others like a tall and skinny 255. It truly depends on your preference and intended uses.

285s on stock wheels have been known to have rubbing issues on the UCA. Remedies include aftermarket UCAs and/or wheel spacers. Both obviously require more money.

Thanks for the input. I have been saving a lot of pictures so I will look them all and make note of which ones have 265 vs 285's. I don't plan to purchase uca's or spacers so 265's may be the way I go.

 

265s are the safer, more economical route, and can still look really good (IMHO) with an all terrain tire.
I personally think 285s look great, but I have never been able to justify them for my needs.

 

Don't discount the 255s! I'm planning to go that route. You get a 33" tire and none of the rub since the track with his essentially the same as the stock tire.

 

I'm well aware of, and have run and loved 255s.

The OP was inquiring about 265 vs 285. Not saying the 255 isn't a good option for him though.

 

What color and size are you looking for?

 

I have considered this route over doing a lift since, according to the web, it gives approx 3" in lift over oem tires. I think this route only makes me question how much different the truck will accelerate or how much it will affect the mpg's. I know there is a thread out there already on this and I have been reading it
