Thanks for the input! I know a lot of people don't regearing for 285s, but it seems like the 4.30s might a nice happy medium. Around here with the wind, altitude, and constant hills it would be nice if it wasn't unlocking the converter/shifting gears on the slightest incline.

If 33s is all you want 4.10 will bring you back to the stock powerband which will be best for all around mixed uses. You can get those from 4cyl 6lug trucks and swap over 3rd and clamshell if you wanna get it done fairly cheap.

Stock size is 30" so going to 33" is about a 10% increase. Hence, 3.73*1.1=4.10

I still want more power though. LoL

On 33s the 4.56 do great. Not great for MPGs but that's not what I built it for. Never felt a lack of torque when off pavement.

Only way I see this happening is with a supercharger. I run 33" 255s on 4.56s and going up hill requires 4k+ rpm. Montana hills anyhow.

Does ECGS sell the front and rear assembled units with 4.30 now?

I am going to go with 4:30. Seems to me like it will be a nice happy medium. I'm guessing a lot of folks who have 456 would've gone 430 if it was an option.

I’m probably the odd man out but I’m going 4.10’s and 34s with my 6 spd. I drive a lot of miles on road trips, it’s my DD, and I do wheel it. If I decide I need lower gears for wheeling, I’ll get a crawl box to have the best of both worlds.

I'll probably order the front from ecgs. Another member who converted to 4x4 gave me his low mileage rear set of 4.30s.

I’m still deciding ... I plan on going to 35 eventually but right now I’m running 33. Should I get 4.30 or 4.56 or go big and do the 4.88. I also plan on locking front and back

OME 885, Toytec AAL with OME shocks, Stainless steel extended brake lines, 4:56 gearing, 255/85 on stock rims, ARB air locker front, Eaton True track rear. Off Road hide a bumper, 12,000#HF winch
    Somewhat off topic,
What is the cut off for carrier size? Or do I need to worry about that in Toyota?
Currently stock auto 4x4 which I believe are 4:10? Will go 4:56 eventually (on 33’s)

I went with the Nitro 4.56's when I locked my front & rear. With the manual transmission running 33's it was miserable. Now with 35's it isn't too bad. Close to 3k rpm at 75'ish mph. It's just loud with the URD LT headers and full exhaust. Makes it a little miserable if I have to take the pavement for more than a few minutes. If I ever swap I'll probably give the 4.30's a go.

Very interesting....I'm on 34" tires with 4.56 gears and I just towed a 4,000lb trailer for 1,000 miles (Columbus Ohio to Dallas Texas) and at no point in the journey was 4000rpm required; even through the hills.

Ohio to Texas sounds like a relatively flat trip.
