I needed something worthwhile to do for the times when I can't go fishing.
Any suggestions for online fly tying material sources? I bummed enough materials from my son while he was in town but now I'm on my own. Let the addiction begin. This site causes a wallet drain even when I'm not thinking about my Tacoma!

Any local shops near you? I’d start there. But there are plenty of online places. Cabelas, basspro, fishusa, Orvis, etc, etc.

Flyfishers Paradise in central Pa. Owned/operated by professional fly fishing guide/fly tier. Not just a store, but a local shop with supplies - primarily Orvis, but others, too. Very knowledgeable and accommindating!!!

Just made my reservations for my annual Baxter State Park spring (late May) pond/native brook trout fishing adventure! The park has canoes on all of the ponds. You pick up the key at the ranger station. All first come first serve. There are enough ponds so it's never an issue if a particular key has already been taken.

    Yours truly organizing gear.

@Sig45, Ever try to fish for the blueback trout in Maine? I just went to a seminar at the flyfishing show this weekend about them. Definitely on my bucket list, but it's a pretty hard fish to catch (mostly because they are so rare, and are only in a few ponds in Maine).

Was that seminar at the Marlborough show?

I don't target them due to them being endangered.

Yeah, Bob Mallard gave the talk. He didn't give any impression that it's not appropriate to fish for them... even though he's on the forefront of trying to reestablish their populations. I didn't even put that together until you just mentioned it.

I know Bob. He's definitely on the "protection" side of the equation.

It's my choice not to target them. Even with fly-fishing there's the potential for mortality.

last year my go to pike fishing spot didnt clear up till early Apr. This year its almost all clear of ice now! so it should be picking up for fishing as soon as the water starts warming up into the 40's...

    Thanks,
    Thanks for the tips!
The tying station is an online Bass Pro Shop $39 special and will hopefully help me keep things somewhat organized while I get the hang of tying.
There is one fly shop about 30 miles away from me. I drove over there today to check their fly tying section and was underwhelmed! The guys in the shop were less than helpful, they were more interested in their phones than they were in assisting a new tyer. I'd like to support the local guys but their lack of customer service and way overpriced supplies make it tough. If anyone here fishes the Easter Sierras-Owens River-Bishop-Bridgeport-Walker areas and have some favorite fly patters please share, I'd like to expand my fly box!
    Thanks again!
    Lee
