My wife used to call my FJ Cruiser a truck, but I always called it a car.

I think people are getting hung-up on "truck" when what we really mean is "pickup". Trucks with beds are pickup trucks, trucks with 8 seats and a lift-gate are truck-based SUVs.

A Tundra and a Sequoia are basically the same vehicle. If one is a truck mechanically then so is the other.

I like the Aussie "Ute" pretty much anything with a small bed under a certain tonnage is a ute, anything over that tonnage is a truck.

Or in europe, heavy trucks called lorries....

Then there is that whole van vs kombi thing.

This is why I wish these search engines let you drill down more. Options like "body on frame" or "has a bed" would be a lot more useful than "truck" "SUV". Alas, many people are simple and if you want their money you have to present them with simple options.

Edit: As long as I'm having wishes granted I would also like to drill down by type of AWD/4WD system (transfer case, 3 differentials, etc etc)

My better half regularly refers to her Nissan Pathfinder as a truck. I learned long ago to just smile and move on. The satisfaction from winning that potential argument with her is offset by the loss of, er, other things.

Body on frame with a bed is a Truck.

Body on frame with without a bed (4runner, tahoe, etc) is a SUV.

Unibody without a bed (Pilot, pathfinder, highlander, etc) is a CUV.

Unibody with a bed (ridgeline) is still a CUV with a bed.

You guys slay me. What do you call a truck that weighs 100K? A truck.
A Ridgeline is a truck. My 4Runner that I hauled more stuff in than 95% of you ever will was a truck to me.
    My Tacoma is a truck.
    A F550 dually diesel is a truck.

I have a 29+ hardtail mtn bike with 3" tires. It's outfitted with racks and clamps to haul chainsaws and diffing tools out to where we are building new trails. Everyone calls it the bike truck and it beats carrying a chainsaw in four miles.
I had a friend we called truck. He was bigger than me and could carry a lot of stuff.

I saw a Ford Escape on a Toyota dealership website today and it was called "2015 Ford Escape truck." I almost fell out of my chair!

My wife has a Ford Escape and the furthest thing from my mind is to call it a truck.

Lately though she's been telling me "what if I told you I want a new Ranger truck when it comes out." Now I guess I can say "what if I told you that you already have a truck...and it's called an Escape."

Well technically in an engineering stand point, SUVs can be considered as a truck due to its chassis. However a crossover uses a car chassis design.

I agree on the statement: Truck has beds. Don’t know why they have to complicate things.
