IMG_1646.jpg IMG_1643.jpg IMG_1727.jpg IMG_1729.jpg IMG_1730.jpg IMG_1732.jpg Couple of weeks ago I was strolling around my local metal supply, looking and steel and aluminum and just thinking about upcoming projects / stuff I want to build and just generally cultivating ideas. Well I stumbled upon these mailbox/ house letter that seemed like a perfect fit for my mini shovel and fire extinguisher. Idk if any one has done this before, but for my cheap ass they seem to fit the bill. I'm on mobile so the upload / descriptions could get pretty wonky here along with misspellings.

But the general idea here is that the bottom of the "1" will have two holes to accommodate a 3/8-16 cap screw that screws to a T nut for the bed rail.

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B009SWGFB4?psc=1&ref=yo_pop_mb_pd
These are the T nuts I bought. Cheap but out of the ten I bought, one was not tapped all the way through.

Then the vertical section will be drilled for whatever holes the quick fist needs.

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B007HOG4DE/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    My quick fists for extinguisher

Then the top of the 1 will be bent over and trimmed so that it rests on the side of the composite bed.

Throw a coat of paint and bobs your aunty. I think these cost 5-10$ a piece. My local supply is industrial metal supply here in Phoenix. They're all over including a lot in CA. I used 8" letters for the extinguisher and I believe 7" for my shovel. IMG_1646.jpg

    That’s awesome man!
I’ve been wanting to do something similar but for my road bike. Like a pole sticking out about 2 feet with fist mounts on the end of it so I can attach it to the bike (just for stabilization)

That’s great! Any rattle on that bottom that’s floating against the bed? FYI, you can get those t-nuts in galvanized. A little more expensive but I’ve seen those black ones get rusty.

    Creative with the numbers!

Just throwing this out there, if you can't find steel numbers or you want to choose the thickness of your steel, you can go to home depot and buy the steel bars they have. I did that for my axe, shovel and rotopax mount in my bed. Works great and you just need to cut it down to the length you want.

You can choose your thickness and width of the steel all being relatively cheap.

Is there a 2x6 slot above the fender hump? Maybe you could throw a 2x6 in there and screw something vertically to intersect with the bikes downtube. Just an idea haha

Nope no rattle yet. I do need to cut some rubber tubing to slide over the end, or go to my paint shop (space age, for anyone in AZ) and get some weatherstripping. Does well for cleaning up saw cut edges on sheet metal as well as provide a softener, I do wanna protect the bed. I didn't know they sold galvy tnuts. That's good to know! Hopefully won't get too crazy in AZ.

I do have some stainless and not just the black oxide, maybe I'll swap em out. Thanks for the heads up.

Brilliant! I used a simple piece of steel to mount my Quick Fist clamps on to but found it not stable enough for my use. This is an excellent DIY and I will look to pick up a few 1's from a hardware store shortly.

Old thread i know, just wanted to ask a quick question

Anyone have advice on where i can find 2 pieces of steel to drop my quick fists below the bed rail?

OP’s numbers could work but look too flimsy. I only have a drill, no saw to be cutting through metal so im looking for pieces that’d only need to be drilled

Depends on your definition of flimsy. That extinguisher has been mounted there since I made these, no issues at all! If u don't have a saw, order these. All u need is a drill and a hammer to bend the top of the 1 over.
