And what percentage of people would even consider camping in temps like that?? LOL.

Just a bunch of old crap
According to them it is. An R-value is given to a pad after it has been professionally and accurately tested, not just because the vendor says it is. The big names that the pros rely on have an R-value associated to them, not a temp rating. Doesn't mean that it can't do what they claim, but does that 15 degree rating include sleeping in base layers and clothing like so many sleeping bags rate themselves? Makes me leery.

I definitely understand, but I didn’t think that there was a professional way to test them like there is for sleeping bags with the EN method. Is that incorrect?

Is not an "R" value for the sleeping pad the same as the "R" rating for home insulation?

Yes, R value is the same for Home, refrigerator, any commercial insulation

Curious, what made you switch up to a RTT? Both have their pro's and cons, but most guys swear by the RTT life after they get one.

I wanted more room for the wife and I. She rarely goes camping anymore, so now it's just a big bed for me and I love the space to sleep in any position I want and to be able to sit up. I hang my clothes up there on the top support rod, and it's more weatherproof and draft proof than the Tent Cot. It's also one less thing in the bed of my truck to take up space. I can take an empty Gatorade bottle up there with me as a urinal so I don't need to climb down, whereas in the Tent Cot I either had to get out of it to pee or I leaned out one of the doors and then had piss pooled on the ground below me. It also puts me higher up from the bugs and the things with teeth and claws. Condensation was also a significant issue in the Tent Cot with or without the rainfly, but the RTT has 4 windows/doors that I can leave open even in the rain and not get wet.

I got such a smoking deal on my RTT and my ARB awning (bought lightly used from Craigslist for $750 combined) that I couldn't pass it up.

i bought my original tent and bed rack for 1k. sold each individually and made money :cookiemonster:

    gotta love deals!

not much of a backpacker although id like to get more into hiking trips/motorcycle instead of truck. so i just have a cheapy walmart single person tent and 20° bag. i also carry it in the truck constantly now.
