I had a horrific drive in. Multi vehicle crash on 89 south. Took me an hour longer to get here, screwed up my entire morning routine.

 

So, in reality, it sort of is good on your birthday. You didn't have to be there as early as your regular job and you got out much earlier!

 

The worst is when your morning commute gets so delayed it starts to overlap with your morning dump. Then you're in trouble!

 

Absolutely, I would definitely do it again.

 

Do later 2nd gens use 0w20 or 5w20? I'm assuming the only reason for the change from 5w30 is EPA MPG rating. Mechanically, should be the same.

 

I don't understand using 0w anything. You'd think you'd want the cold start to have some level of protection from a slightly heavier oil. 0 weight is asking a lot out of the seals and wear surfaces (and I get that it operates at 20 weight but there's still a transition period).

 

Just asking for long-term issues and leaks. Imho

So for the 3g they call out for 0w-20 (I think) are you guys saying that I'm asking for trouble later or was that comment specific to the 2g?

I wouldn't necessarily say that because I'd basically be second guessing the engineer who designed the engine, but I don't like that manufacturers specify 0WXX for any vehicle. I think if you lift the EPA mandates, you'd be hard pressed to find an engineer who will recommend 0W oil of their own free will. In the grand scheme of things, I'm sure it's fine, I just see it as an unnecessary risk / unnecessary wear on the engine.

 

So would it be better running 5w-20? or would that cause me even more issues since it's not the recommended oil?
