What do people think about solid mounted lowers? Good, bad idea and does anyone know what is the best way to set up your lower bolts before welding them in place?

 

Going back a few years to Jberry's first gen build days.

 

I love the idea of them. but surely you need to set up the solid mounts in a way that makes the LCA line up in a good spot to make your alignment doable from just the uca.

 

This^^^ I am going to do mine sooner than later and basically I want to go get an alignment before hand so that I know exactly where to set the lca's to. Then just mark it really good and put some weld washers in with some grade 8 bolts

 

well..you guys have it good. LSK makes a solid mount kit. Have buddy running the solid lower mounts with Dirt King stock width UCAs and LCAs. Hasn't had to tweak in alignment in forever.

 

That’s what I was thinking of doing too but just wanted to make sure there wasn’t some easier right way of doing it first.

I disagree with that...how are the tc gussets a pain the ass? Couple hours and they are in. Work great for those who don’t have heim uppers. I have had leak solid mounts and tc gussets, and the solid mount is a pain in the ass.

To give that Jberry quote some context I think he was telling that to someone that could have gone with some heimed uppers for a couple / few hundred more dollars.

 

What would be the going price for an e-locker axle off a 2001 tacoma?

 

I wouldn't pay over 400 for one. Any more then that, might as well keep the stronger 8.4 diff and get a stronger ARB locker.

 

I see them for $5-800 on CL and from the dismantlers around here just for the axle - no wiring harness.

I've never payed more than $350 for a whole axle assembly. Generally get just the 3rd for $150-200.
