0W20 and 5W20 will both operate as a 20 weight oil, the first number is the cold viscosity, 0 being a lighter oil than 5. It just means, when the engine is stone cold, it first starts up with a very, very light oil, the lighter the oil, the thinner the 'wall' of protection between moving parts.

Do you like that place? I've heard it is pretty expensive. I have a few places in the woods I like to go to but those lack the comforts of being inside during the winter.

The w does not mean weight its its “winterization rating” and only refers to the oils properties in cold weather the lower the w the better it preforms in cold weather the last number is viscosity at operating temperature and isn’t affected by the first number except most times a 0w will have a lower recommended operating temp than say a a 10w... the viscosity difference between a 20 to the 30 is not major in a sense that you’re engine will detonate at 100k now opposed to 300k but it would become more susceptible to wear under high loads. Still more than enough protection if you follow regular intervals.
Personally I use 5w30 in the winter and 10w30 in the summer I run the 30 viscosity because I don’t care about the .5mpg and with the turbo coming along 20 might get bubbly on me

FJ is going strong and ticking like a sewing machine nearing 190k on a steady diet of 5w30 Dino oil. 5k oci defeats running synthetic imo.

You explained it a lot better than I was trying to. I just run 5W20 in the Ferd year round, I was running 5W30 in the Tacoma year round. I don't think the temperature swings around here are extreme enough for me to be concerned with changing oils with the seasons.

That's a different sort of oil.

@mach1man001 you guys don't carry emissions stuff correct? I think I need a new charcoal canister (p0420) but the damn things are like $700 new.

Look at Rock Auto. I just checked quick and they were like $300. Looks like it varies greatly though depending on when your FJ was built...

I should get a picture of all of the "rock auto" magnets I have, but I'd have to consolidate them for that. I've got them stuck all over the place; the door in the garage, upstairs fridge, downstairs fridge, under the hoods on the '84 and the '69...Everywhere.

Ya the early 07 ( built in 06) are much cheaper for some reason. Unfortunately I've got a later production 07

Same here. My little ones are helping me weed out though by breaking them all on me.

I just watched a Youtube video about using WD-40 to unclog a charcoal canister. For $700, might be worth a shot.
