Well Niner just filed for bankruptcy, and kinda hinted to making themselves open for sale, so that may be questionable for customer services claims in the future.

As far as the bikes go, I haven't heard a complaint about any of those brands.

Can't go wrong with finding a good demo program. My LBS charges 250 for 4 bikes. If you buy, the 250 goes towards the bike.

^THIS. if you don’t want to build one this is your best bet. Most local shops will do this.

They had a buyer and filed for bankruptcy to make the sale more attractive. Not sure about bankruptcy laws or sales of businesses or why that would be the case, but that's what I read. Then, the night before bankruptcy court, the buyer bailed on them. I haven't seen any news since the bankruptcy in the last week or so. I can tell you they are still in business as usual. I drive by their headquarters to and from work everyday. If they have a blowout sale at their office, then I would be in. I bought my wife a RKT when they first came out a couple of years ago and it is a really nice bike.

Bankruptcy makes you attractive because it restructures your debt, and may reduce some of your liabilities. I am with you in the fact that I would buy one of their bikes without thinking about it. I just wanted to point out their recent events since it might have affected their business. I wasn't aware that the buyer backed out.

    Yeah.
Are you looking to have both in the stable, or just one bike? What's your terrain like?

I like having a 29+ hardtail (it's a Stache with really short chainstays) and a 27.5 long travel bike (Remedy). We have a good mix of trails here, and both have their place.

If I was going to have one bike, it would likely be a FS 29er with a medium amount of travel (~140mm) with the ability to swap wheels to 27.5+. If your terrain is more smooth and flowy, you could go with less travel.

I'm a fan of DW Link (even though I don't own one), so my choice of those would be the Ibis Mojo HD4 if it's adding to your stable. If it's your only bike and you don't have super gnarly terrain, the Rocky Mountain Instinct would be my choice. You can switch back and forth from 29er to 27.5+.

Thanks guys for the reply it is correct niner did file for bankruptcy so the new people buying them will have clean slate from what ive been hearing.

I know this is contradicting myself but from niner i happy with there new sir 9 hard tail 27.5 plus and 29er also redid the geometry.

Ibis- ripley is fun bike but the mojo hd seems like the bike to go with.

Rocky mountain- not sure if im sold on them yet i do like there bikes i hear rumors of something new coming out.

Theres to many options out there probably why im so indecisive about what to choose.

Hey guys, looking to get a bike rack/carrier for my Tacoma. Looking for something that would allow me to drill into the filler plates pictured below. If anything makes more sense as well please don’t hesitate to let me know!

P.S. is a front fork mount enough to secure the bike in its entirety?

    Yeah.
Yeah, lots of choices. Everyone is different -- leg, torso, arm length, weight, riding style, preferences for how the bike feels. What feels good to one person feels wrong to another. The Niner and Ibis suspension designs are similar (Niner doesn't call it DW Link, but it that's basically what it is), so if you like the feel, stick with a similar design. Santa Cruz, Giant, and others have their own variations of the same design. The Rocky Mountain uses a Horst link like Specialized -- I tried one, didn't like how linear the feel was, wanted more ramp-up. But different designs and tunes can probably fix that. I ride Treks, I like the ABP and the suspension curve, and I like how there is always a dealer or 3 nearby wherever I live and can get quick warranty work if needed. I've never seen an Ibis in a shop, Niner and Rocky Mountain only in a few.

I picked up a 2018 Remedy 8 a couple months ago -- awesome spec for the price. Brakes could be better, but they are good enough and get better once broken in. Lyrik with Charger 2 damper, Deluxe RE:aktiv rear shock, GX Eagle. No carbon, but I am probably going to crash this bike some, so I prefer aluminum.

    Yeah.
You would still need to strap the back wheel down with a fork mount, but you could stick a couple of bolts through the panels at about the tire width just to position the back wheel, cut a couple of slits and use a velcro strap or something. I prefer to leave the front wheel on, and different axle designs require different adapters. They should have solved this by now . . .

Anyway, any of the roof-top racks could be mounted there. I prefer the kind that have a bar/hook that clamps down over the front wheel. Yakima and Thule both have them, not sure about Kuat.

Cheapest by far would be fork mounts, though.

What kind of budget are you looking at? I'd check out your local shop, they might have some leftover 2017 models on sale.

Commencal is a popular brand and has decent prices since they sell direct to consumer. I've never owned one though so can't comment on the ride or customer service, etc.

I DESPISE taking off my front wheel. I would have half a mind to get one of the 1UP roof rack mounts, then just drill holes to accept the mounting bolts. The mounting bolts are held by their heads in a channel (like Prinsu Racks) so you can slide them anywhere along the rack to mount to the filler plates.

Thanks for your input. I figured out a much simpler way to attach it, I’ll just need to buy some straps or bungees to secure it to the rack

I bought one of these last summer to use as a cheapo second bike. It was a solid climber and descender and didn't have any major mechanical issues after 500km. If you're a beginner, then it's definitely not going to limit what you're capable of riding.

The new 2018s come with 27.5+ plus tires if you can stomach the extra money. I wish mine would have had those, I think it would make a big improvement on a hardtail. I never had to deal with Commencal for warranty or anything, but their shipping and customer service was great. Assembling the bike from the box was easy and they provide instructional videos on their website.

What's the difference between that one and this one? https://www.commencalusa.com/Mobile/meta-ht-trail-ride-650b-orange-2017-c2x21027615
The one you posted might be a little out of my budget still saving so maybe not but we'll see

For the most part, just the fork. The cheaper one has a 120mm Rochshox revelation (their cheapest, least aggressive fork) and the black one has a 160mm Yari which is a mid-level fork with enough travel to get into some steep downhills.

If you're going to be riding on rolley up and down variable trails, the orange one will probably suffice. If you're going to be doing trails where you climb for a while and then do one big, sustained descent, that's when you will be wanting the bigger fork. Also if you're planning on ever getting the wheels off the ground, you would be wanting the bigger fork.

The black AM version also has much more aggressive tires.
