Your truck just happens to be my ideal Tacoma if something should happen to mine!

If my truck gets totaled, I'd just take the stereo, rims, and @HomerTaco grille off of it, and use the insurance money to buy yours!

I'd love to have a stick shift 2nd gen AC TRD 4x4 V6!

Here is my dissenting opinion for whatever it's worth... Having just finally slimmed down to one vehicle I think the fewer you have the better. Less of them to insure, maintain, park somewhere and look at every day, etc. etc. I'm sentimental with rigs too, but as the saying goes, you can't take it with you when you die. If it was me I would sell the access cab and get a newer double cab to accommodate the future kids. Unless you actually need to have a diesel truck then just get one of those. Two pickups in the arsenal just seems redundant. How often do you hunt that you would need a dedicated hunting rig? I hunt/fish more than probably 99% of the people on this earth and I do it with the same pickup I drive to work, just saying.

Dealers always suck to deal with, even when they're polite and professional!

Yep. I get ya. That's why I started this thread. Thanks man.

Don't need two trucks. I hunt all year round and I've always been fine with this truck/daily driver.

Do I sell this access cab now or wait a few years until I really need the double cab?

I'd say no hurry but if you see a DC out there that fits the bill and you feel good about the condition, mileage and maintenance history, and it's in your price range, jump on it. These things don't last long on the market

This is my third and bought it used a month ago 2006 with 60K on it one owner for a great price. I wouldn't of had to do that if I would have kept my second one that I think was my best truck of all.

Start shopping for your double cab, but since you aren't in a hurry you have all the leverage. Wait for a good deal on one you really like.

Having gone through this same dilemma, I agree. I sold my low mileage extra cab Toyota and bought a DCSB. There was no way the rear facing car seat was going to fit in the back seat, and you’d be surprised about the amount of stuff kids require. Sure you can always plan on using one car to transport your kid everywhere, but that is a PITA. Or get a second truck, but redundant vehicles seems less than ideal as pointed out above. While I am fond of and miss my old truck, there is just no way it would have been practical and I made the right decsision for me. Best case if not getting another vehicle you are only delaying the inevitable, that back seat will only fit the kid for a limited time. It will be a new chapter in your life and a new addition to your family. Sacrifices are just part of it. Think of the new DC truck as starting that chapter with you and keep the family friendly truck forever. You can do what I did and sell it to a friend so you have visitation rights.

But all that said, you said ‘eventually’ have kids. So you don’t really need to worry about it till the time comes.

Access cab works for kids 6-10. You can have the kid in the back in a booster, and then just using the jump seats when they outgrow he booster. Once they are a shitty teenager they won't fit.

Rear facing DOES NOT WORK with access cab unless you have the passenger seat slid all the way forward and tilted. In which case you can't carry a kid AND someone up front.

    It doesn't work.

Keep it build it better for your purpose. If I was in your shoes I'd wait until I had a kid away before I really considered a new rig you have a sometime once you find out if you don't mod it save your old payment every month when the time comes youll be able to take huge chunk out of a new rig an possibly get 0% financing or a good used truck.

I would say keep the Current Taco. Yeah an access cab is a bit more of a pain, but if you have the other vehicle for family duty, you can deal with an occasional inconvenience.

It seems like you really love this truck, and it's paid for, so...

They did all the way through '04, and in my opinion the factory speakers in the later first gens weren't too bad either.

NOTE: I am basing my opinion on how the factory system in my uncle's '02 S-Runner sounded when it was brand new.

I don’t pay much attention to the sound quality. My two 12” subs drown out the imperfections.

12" subs, or any size for that matter...

One of the very few reasons I wish I had an access cab instead of a regular cab!

I have an extended cab and two of them barely fit. I actually have to face them upwards. I also have a spare single 12” that I can use if I need extra room.

I almost spent last year's federal income tax refund on an Imagine Dynamics subwoofer, and my neighbor who was selling it would have installed it for free too. However, I'm a big guy (roughly 6 feet tall), and installing a such a big woofer in a regular cab truck would have meant losing the ability to put the seat all the way back!
