Going a half inch narrower wheel than recommended seems to work pretty well for airing down. I've done cookies and drifted like an asshole with 4psi on my stock steelies and never lost a bead.

Yeah maybe it’s 8.5 because all the tires I keep looking up in that size say 6.5-8.5, not 9.

Yes thanks, that’s exactly what I am seeing. Trying to have a better and cheaper tire selection vs the 255 85 16’s.

    I’m very happy with 255 85 R16 KM2’s on TRD OR rims.

Primarily why I went to the 17 wheel. Just more options and the ST max are almost $50 cheaper per tire and 1 lb lighter than the 16" version. no idea why so much cheaper + plus more tire options in the future in skinny size vs the 16" skinny size.

Exactly. I will probably end up spending a little more on wheels so I have options for less expensive quality tires.

Curious, I've read the km2 actually measures almost a half inch bigger than the rest at around 33.2"s mounted. I know there's a ton variable but curious if the KM2 really is bigger?

Looks like SCS for the middle wheel, but do you happen to know who makes the other two?

I'm in the process of putting some skinny Cooper Discoverer A/T3's on my '17 Sport and I'm sorting out wheel options. I'd prefer to go color-matched steel wheels with the 18-hole pattern, but they getting a set that fits has been an adventure.

I think I finally have it sorted (OEM #42601-AD030 seems to be the correct part), but if not...

Did not see Mastercraft Courser Cxt on the list.
I have been looking at them in 255/80r17.
    They also have 255/85r16.

    Bigger Taller Slower
I was comparing the st maxx and toyo at-11 in 255/80/17, and several things stuck out. The toyos are taller 33.1 vs 32.8, but the tread depth is deeper on the maxx by several mm. The little extra height of the toyos would be better looking, but i am afraid of longevity differences because of the lesser tread depth. Also the maxx 255 series regardless of the listed specs are being reported as appearing quite wide for that size, whereas the toyos are definity pizza cutters. The toyos were 50 lbs as opposed to the maxx at 58. Quoted 1300 installed for the maxx, and 1070 for the toyos at les shwab (without shopping around at all, I'm sure there's a better deal out there). Still deciding. Thoughts?

I can't speak to the comparison between the two, but I have the Toyos right now in 255/85/16 and they have a long tread life. I almost have 40K on mine and they have at least another 20-30K of tread left.

Question for you, how loud are these and how do they handle on the highway? I'm trying to figure out if I want these or the St Maxx. I do a lot of highway driving so I'm concerned about the noise but I do like the Toyo's over the Coopers.

There is some noise associated with them and its noticeable in comparison to the stock tires but nothing so loud that you can't listen to someone next to you talking and is easily drowned out by music. Highway performance is overall good but they are terrible on gas mileage. I average about 14/15mpg on the highway with them. My current mods (front steel bumper and winch, sliders, roof rack, topper, 2" lift) also impact that but I was able to notice the tires bringing me down to about 17mpg before all the other mods.

I would bet that the toyo MT and ST maxx are almost similar in road noise. If anything the ST maxx might have less road noise due to it being a hybrid vs a true MT but it won't be notiable. I hear the ST tires but it's not annoying, but definatley louder than the falken wildpeaks I had before.

Go with which one you like visually or if you want that extra height from the Toyos.

I don't carry as much weight as ladyred; 2inch lift, steel bumper, Bamf grill, and TRD skid plate, but on my 105 mile trip I got 20mpg. City is still in the air, I've seen 12-17 depending on traffic and how heavy my foot is that day.

Hope this help...either way you'll be happy with either one.

Thanks for the responses. I've had the old MTR's on my Jeep and know how loud a mud tire can be. I switched to Dura Tracs and never really noticed the noise to much but the MTR's were loud. I guess the budget fits in the decision too but how many miles I get out of them is a big thing too. At $250 a tire I want them to last and do good in snow.

Wow that's pretty good. I'm waiting on my tax return so I still have some time. Thanks for letting me know.

No, sorry if the post may sound like that. It's just from research on the forums and a friend who has the toyo mt tires in 285/75r17 on his 4runner.

Roger. Thanks. Cause I was thinking of switching to something lighter or even switching to 17s so I have more options. Just debating if its worth losing the inch of sidewall on the trails.
