A king pin is easy to clean up boss. You obviously don’t see the huge ass casting on the driver side of the axle and the big brackets on the passenger side tube. I’ll let this one slide. :D

The superduty axles are a bit more beef and have more factory stuff to cut off. The tubes if I remember are 1/2” thick

Yep, Sand Hollow looks awesome...I wish I lived closer.

Looks like the Tacoma is coming out of storage tomorrow. Make sure it hasn’t been stolen, still starts, etc....setting expectations low so I can’t be disappointed

That's an understatement. Axle tubes, inner Cs, knuckles, brakes,...everything is bigger in SD axles than older D60s. When I got my king pin axle it happened to be laying on the ground right next to a 2005 SD axle. Man, seriously, the kingpin looked small next to that SD beast of an axle. I had a brain fart for moment and wondered if the kingping was a D44

i hear you. I keep mine in storage also and a new issue seems to come up each time I go get it lol.

Mine sits out and gets used year round lol. Home from sand hollow. No damage or broken parts (haven't found any yet) and had fun so id say it was a good weekend. Saturday was super slick with some rain and snow. No real action pictures. But do have a ton of videos I'll post on my Instagram...

We ended up running John's trail, milts mile, the maze, plan b, and double Sammy. Snowed and rained on double Sammy and tried the chute at the end and got halfway before the rear slid in the v notch and wasn't worth flopping it so backed out of it.

And like normal was the only non jeep on most the trails we did. A few other things and some other Toyota's but mainly jeeps.

Those are really great pics. That area is so nice to go wheeling and beautiful.

When I go wheeling here in AZ 99% of the time I am the only toyota among a bunch of Jeeps. So I know the feeling :D

That salt is evil. I do NOT miss living in the northeast. My truck's frame is in surprisingly good shape considering I exposed it to winter salt for years.

Our schedule down here is backwards to you guys. Summers are beyond brutally hot here in AZ. I almost never wheel during the summer, so the truck stays tucked in :D Winter is when the wheeling season starts. Temperature stays in the low 70s during the day...it doesn't rain or snow. Tons and tons of people come to the southwest for wheeling from all over the country during the winter. Actually, there's a couple of guys from Canada in one of the groups I go out with.

People sasing tacoma's bragging about the extra strength of a Super 60 over a king pin or older balljoint 60. I have what's considered the weakest 60 and under a 1/4 ton truck it's still stupid strong and was way easier to fab into place.

thought king pin axles are known for being expensive to buy? Also the knuckles are prone to crack. And have 30 spline shafts. ? Might be easier to put brackets on it but I bought my axle for 400 bucks complete. I’m going through it so I don’t have to later before I start the swap. Most people going with them are second gen Tacoma’s which are a lot more weight wise then the 1st gens

Well I did not imply that older D60s are weak axles. I just stated how much bigger the super 60 axles really are.

My kingpin is plenty big and strong for my 1st gen. But yea I had to upgrade a bunch of stuff from the get go, which jacked up the price.

my buddy bought his 78 ford king pin 60 for $300 and i bought my ford 92 ball joint 60 for $200 and just bought a ford 91 king pin 60 for $400. As far as upgrades you're going to regear and lock any factory axle you buy about the only add'd cost i had was the 35 spline chromoly axles and my 35 spline hubs totaling in at $900 so yeah it's cheaper to do a super 60 but it's not easier. Remember kids cheap ain't bad ass and bad ass ain't cheap

Cheap is badass when it works and when the general consensus is to throw cash at a problem (real or perceived) until it works.

So my front aftermarket driveshaft is plenty long and will angle low enough to reach my high pinion 3rd member at full droop... except when it rotates it won't angle low enough because the u joints will hit. (if that makes since, I haven't done much with driveshafts and don't know how to explain it that well.) but I have heard people grind the double cardon joint to allow for a better angle. I also plan to put limit straps on so I don't mess up the shocks. but my question is should I try grinding for a better angle, put the limit straps on and accept that I will loose about 3 inches more than I planned on, or is there another type of double cardon joint or something I could put on to give me a better angle?
