So I got a very good price on a Certified 16 DCSB OR 4x4 in Quicksand. It had a dent on the top edge of tailgate. I mentioned it & sales guy said yes we will take care of it. Signed paperwork & was scheduled to pick it up tomorrow. Just got a message from salesman saying paint less dent guy will not touch it as he's worried about cracking the paint. Nothing more was said just that I would still be able to pick it up tomorrow. Looking at my certified inspection checksheet it clearly states vehicle is free of all dents. Well it's not. I had a feeling by the look of the dent that a painless dent guy was not going to be able to repair that.

So do I ask them to still repair it via a new tailgate or do I ask for money back?

No go. If they will lie to you now, they will do it again.

Also did you make sure all the recalls and TSB's have been done? Run the VIN # and see what comes up.

As long as you have written in the Sales Contract that it will be fixed before delivery you are good to go. If you just go by the word of a salesman then it's an expensive lesson if they refuse to fix it.

It was verbal but lucky for me it's checked meets standards on the free of all dents line on the Certified check sheet.

When I went to pick it up if it wasn't fixed I'd point it out and ask them why it wasn't fixed yet. Then after he says xyz you tell him that he agreed to have it fixed before delivery and he didn't preface that with it needing to be able to be repaired with a paintless dent technique. Then basically tell him you won't take delivery until it is fixed as agreed upon. That is, if it's worth it to you to potentially blow up this entire deal.

Sad thing is, if you don't buy it, someone else will (if it is a good price like you said it was). But no way I would buy it on principal alone.

If you do go through with it, don't ever take it back to that dealer for any work.

Alternately, if you can live with the dent (at least temporarily), maybe you can get him to knock off a few hundred bucks. Then take it to your own PDR guy.

Be careful with this. If you take the truck and leave the lot, then come back later to get the dent issue resolved, they will say, the check sheet says it was free of dents, you must have dented it. Now you have to pay. I would request a new check sheet before leaving with the truck.

Yes I will not take delivery of vehicle until this is resolved. Just got off phone with salesman & he's going go talk to sales manager & get back to me. I told him rough cost of tail gate replacement. I will be requesting a new check sheet as they marked seat heaters N/A & it has seat heaters.
