"That sum bitch jus as strong as factory rite there"

I just respooled my winch tonight after work. My winch came with the synthetic line. I don't know how you guys with the metal lines do it. If it were me, I would want to change that metal line out for a synth line asap. It's so much easier to handle, safer, and the weight difference.

Literally the only reason I went with steel over synthetic is cost, and nothing else. It was $300 for my winch and IIRC it was around $450 for the same thing with syn. I would like syn and will switch eventually when my steel cable wears out as it's definitely easier to handle and safer. I just watched some videos on it snapping and it just falls to the ground! I will give a win to steel on the maintenance aspect though. Just need to occasionally wipe it down with WD-40 whereas with syn you should be washing it after every muddy wheeling trip to get the grit out from in between the fibers.

for sure. I agree. there's pluses and minuses to everything. I got a decent deal on mine, was $380 out the door for a 9500lb winch. The maintenance is about the only win I see for the metal lines. the cost? well deals can be had at the right times of the year. I also used Ebates and it was a decent percentage cash back on top of the 380$.

Frankly, it amazes me that a synth winch line is as strong as it is. same with soft shackles.

Yeah the strength thing blows me away, and I'm a believer in soft shackles now after using them this last weekend with @bski22. I want to get myself some since they're a bit more versatile than the standard D ring style.

Yep. I'm actually looking to put soft shackle mounts on my bumpers now instead of DRing mounts. I want to eliminate any possible steel that I can.

Aren't the mounts the same thing? Or would they just be a little more rounded on the inside edges?

Where the Drings mount to is generally a hole drilled in about 3/4" steel. The edges of the holes aren't conducive to a soft shackle. They would more than likely start shearing thru the fibers. If the edges were filed down some, then yeah it would be better. But then you still have the 3/4" hole to thread the soft shackle end through. In my mind, using a 3/4" solid round bar (or tube... whatever is stronger) that has a slight bend in it and welded to a bumper would be a lot better.

Sort of like this, but less obtrusive. I would want the bend in the tube flattened out more.

Ahhh, that makes sense. What'd be cool is one of each on each side (bent on one side and traditional recovery point on the other), just to be the most versatile you can be and account for more scenarios, even if it looks a little funky. Or just carry a hitch shackle receiver in the off chance you need to use a d ring.

$1900 sound about right for a regear to 4.88 installed? I just got a quote from ECGS.
