Last year was out of control. There was vomit. There was passing out. There was trail damage. I lost my phone in the mud on a trail. BUT - at the end of the weekend the BEST thing happened! I met @trekker <3

You'll be fine. You won't have to worry about listening to people that don't know what they're doing this time around. Plus, you could try watching where you're driving so you can avoid hitting things... ;) :p

I'll have that camera kit hooked up to help too.

Yessir! I don't know everything lol (clearly!) but I know enough to get me out of trouble when it happens. Some people try to break shit on purpose and I don't get that.

Hell, I break stuff and I wasn't even meaning to... complete accident.

The less I break stuff, the happier I am at the end of the day. I will be the first person to be like nope on a trail that I am not comfortable with.

Because at the end of the day, still my daily driver.

It's really impressive what these fab shops are doing with their aluminum winch bumpers. I wonder how well they hold up on the trails...

Ohhh ! I forgot about the camera thing. I'm excited about that too! And yeah - not wheeling with the "hold my beer and watch this" crowd will probably help the longevity of my Runner. lol

Well, my daily doesn't get driven daily... but it's my main ride since I gave my old truck to my dad to use. I'll be getting a grocery getter car at some point down the road.

Exactly! That's why we have that "remember stupid, you have to drive this home" patch.

I remember one trail I was in line to go down last year - then a taco flopped a few vehicles ahead of me. I noped the hell outta there real fast.

That's the question! I like the idea of the lighter weight - but if/when I do bump something with them - I need to know they will hold up. I'm not (just) getting them for looks.

i think its really going to depend on a couple factors...
    1. How fast are you going
    2. Where on the bumper did you hit?
If you are going fast... its going to crunch. Slow... probably not too much with a steel bumper if you hit in the middle of the bumper.

"hypothetically" you are traveling down a dirt/gravel road @ ~20mph and you slam on your breaks, slide for about 15ft and counter steer to avoid collision, and you hit the outside of the bumper "wings". Well those "wings" will deff be bent AF! On a steel bumper!

Now on an aluminum bumper in the same "hypothetical wreck"... probably would have torn somewhere and would be all bent to shit! And with aluminum, if it bends you cant bent it back.

Also good to note that an aluminum bumper will give you better clearance than the stock bumper, however if it gets bent or deformed then its toast, its way softer than steel so it will want to stick to rocks rather than slide on them. But they are lighter and will never rust!!

True. Not to mention that they could crack from bouncing around off road for several years if they aren't reinforced properly.

I like my full plate steel bumper, but damn my truck is heavy and a heavy truck means drive line items have more force put on them and will break easier.

Maybe a hybrid steel tube bumper is the way to go... but dammit I love the look of plate bumpers on tacomas.
