so I'll be taking a trip to Colorado in a couple of months with some friends.. (we've always seen pics and want to check it out)
does anyone have any "fun" things to do? I'm thinking we'll be around Denver / Boulder area. Any nice hiking trails with good views around? Never been to the area and we'll be there for 4 or so days.

Looking at stepping back from the 315s. They don't handle very well on the 4runner when compared to the 255s. So I'm looking at either another set of 255/85r16 or 285/75r17. If I went 255s I would only look at the BFG muds, they wear good and sit the tallest in the 255s. They are about 33.5" tall. The 285/75r17 has a couple options to choose from. Not sure if any of those run short for their stated size but they should be about a 34" tire, only a 1/4" shorter than a 315.

    Think my options there are:

    BFG Kbro2 A/T
    BFG KM2 M/T
    Toyo AT2 A/T
    Toyo MT M/T
    Cooper AT3 A/T
    Cooper STMaxx A/T
    Falken AT3W A/T
    Nitto Terra Grappler A/T
    Nitto Ridge Grappler A/T
    Nitto Mud Grappler M/T
    Yokohama Geolander AT A/T

    Anyone know of any others?

I steer away from Nitto most of the time. When I think of Bro tires, they top the list. The Falken is cheap and new to the market. The Cooper STMAXX in the 255 wore really fast for me, others with wider tires seem to be showing different results, not sure how I feel about those. The Cooper AT3 and the Toyo AT2 look like they would have really good street traction/life, might not fit the off road bill. I've never had any issues with the Kbro2s. Not sure I want a Mud tire.

KM2s are loud, balance like shit, and melt like butter. I'm probably going to get 30k out of them with rotations every 5k.

I was able to get 40k out of my last set of KM2s. Thought they balanced well for a M/T. Not louder than any other M/T. I wasn't really looking to go the M/T route though.

With any M/T proper rotation is very important to wear, most A/Ts are going to wear better in every aspect.

I'm also looking to get new tires soonish, and I'd narrowed mine down to Hankook Dynapro ATM, Falken Wildpeak or Cooper Discoverer AT3. They're all around the same price too, at least in what I'm looking for, which is standard load 265/75r16.

So I guess what I mean to say is, why isn't the Hankook on your list?

Size limitation. I pulled out all the tires I could find in the 285/75r17 size. Same reason I left Durcraps off of the list.

I put 285/75/17 Toyo AT2's on the Taco, So far they have rode great but I only have 100ish miles on them. Static height mounted off the truck was 33.75" tall. and 11ish wide. IMO that size is great for Toyota's as it's not 315 wide and doesn't get into the BM or cab as much as a 315 or 12.50 tire.

This is after I tubbed the new cab and put the tires on. The size fits great with the common aftermarket Toyota wheels. IE SCS, Icon, Method, whatever is popular this week.
